Speaks volumes but doesn't actually get much right. Rules out the winner of the second on ground - finished third on it last time - and tipped the odds on fav in the first even though it was its first time on soft. Massively overrated
Napping a 2yo newcomer, on soft ground.. told you lot before, fuc king clueless the lot of them.
Got to love it though, it was the first one beaten, at the back and beaten about 5 out
Paid to talk sh it

none of the half brother trader horses it's elated to won first time out, trainer was hinting it wanted a trip, seemingly hated that ground and was beaten much too early for it to be its proper running

All talk ear bashers with no content - RUK seem to love the type with Howard being another.Gig after gig given to them even though the subscriber base begs for mercy and reaches for the mute button.

The racing media has become a world full of non stop talking nonentities who are paid to pontificate endlessly in order to fill "dead-air" time.
It doesn't happen in the print industry where the written word is subjected to editing to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Came to the conclusion long ago that liberal use of the mute button is the only way of escaping from such over verbalising by "pundits" most of whom wouldn't know the first thing about racehorses, other than they glean from the form book or other published material.

he just said (about Zain Empire, with five runs) " the most inexperienced in the field"...yeah Chris, if you forget about the fav which has only run 3 times!

Now says that he assumes a horse wont act on soft ground until it proves it does, yet he naps an unraced 2-y-o, probably the biggest mug punt ever. Talk about a 360 degree turn. Full of hot air and yet he genuinely thinks he is an expert

Duncan. Live TV is indeed different but that shouldn't prevent producers from trying to employ pundits who hopefully know something about the hands on aspect of the racing industry.

Duncan, anyone tipping an unraced two year old as their best bet on the card is a total guesser, as you well know.
My all time favourite was when Rodway in the Racing Post napped an unraced two year old because the owner's retained jockey had chosen to ride it instead of another runner in the same ownership that had got a good mention in the Stable Tours pull out...

remember when the Nap used to be front-page headline in Sporting Life and a young Gary Nutting stood in for the main man (Frank Carter?)...first day and he headline tipped Guy Harwood newcomer in a Salisbury maiden!..couldnt believe it and how i laughed when the beast got beat at Evens...turned out the horse that beat it went on to win the Middle Park and the Harwood horse, Digression, won the Royal Lodge 2 starts later (i think he must have heard some buzz )

Duncan, no doubt connections fancied KG and Eclipse winner Nathaniel to make a winning debut, until they ran up against Frankel.
That's the point - how can these joke 'experts' have anything other than a total guess as to the quality of the opposition, even if they know a Group horse is about to be to unleashed - and even then, they are far from certain to do it first time (off the top of my head, 130+ rated Derby winners Sea The Stars, Shahrastani, High Chapparal all beaten on debut)...

i bet quite a bit in bumpers, millhouse..it's very possible to find value either backing for or against newcomers based on pedigrees and trainer stats in such races, even more so if you can see them in paddock
your Nathaniel point is terrible hindsight..the horse got beat ½length by possibly the best horse in history ie would probably have won against 99.9% other horses in history! How's that not a good bet, win or lose!

Nothing wrong with backing Unraced 2 y o ESPECIALLY on soft ground... that can be your way into a race.
Horses in the race by certain sires simply cannot go on the ground and/or wont stay
Where as you can find stamina laden soft ground sires that will lap up conditions.
Form is purely there for interpretation ...whereas you cant mask breeding.

dont disagree with that, millhouse..that's why i recounted the Gary Nutting tale (ie if you've heard some buzz, just say you've heard some buzz...dont dress it up as a 'tip')

Totally correct. If he had said he has heard it was going well nothing would have been said. But he obviously wanted to appear 'in the know'. Napping it just compounded the situation

Agree with fozbald about the price yet Dixon thought it was better and a positive that it was only 6/4.
Surprising the number of pundits who are happier taking a shorter price for their fancies, Howard regularly does it, is their any evidence that they do better when a short price, especially at decent meetings?
Winstanley used to regularly put up short priced unraced 2 year olds, Stoute, Cecil, Charlton etc, couldn't remember any of them winning.

roger charlton-"copperopolis went of favourite somehow, despite the warning on hear that he would need further"
in a small defence of dixon, at least he does put up a selection(did pick a 10-1 shot),more than some when was the last time mellish selected anything and the figures man talks a good game but mostly picks the fav.
perhaps he would be better served just telling the viewer is best bets(if anyone actually cares).
