Especially on a Saturday. With the on-course bookies turning up in their droves with the big handicaps aplenty, they love it. The main difference is simple. Sure, the on-course books have to make a living, but isn't it strange when a horse starts to contract in price, so do some others! This happens every Saturday, whereas on Betfair  if there's a horse with plenty of money for it, the prices of the others expand, keeping the book to as near 100% as possible.

Come racing? What a joke if you want value. Meanwhile the on-course books know their days are numbered due to their greed. Long live Betfair and their value, especially when the mean on-course geezers will only go 1/4 the odds 1,2,3 and 4, on a thirty  runner handicap whereas  you can go into plenty of shops and Betfair and get the first six home on occasion.

Fairly irrelevant really when you know the amount of big hitters  who venture on-course...

1/4 odds on course? If you're lucky! Regularly see 1/5 and even 1/6 from time to time.

like to hear where you seen 1/6 odds GLOSSY, same old argument about 1/4-1/5 odds. sick of people comparing win only odds on here to EW bets on course

At least on course bookmakers don't charge you 60% of your winnings.

With respect BIG might be better to ask him/her when he saw 1/6th otherwise his/her point might have a shred of credibility.

That is what 60% of oncourse punters have done, Now most of the on course bookies come on here moaning. They have killed the golden goose.

I think that the 1/6th odds you saw at Cheltenham was the final nail in the coffin for the shysters as it finally woke up the jockey club who banned such fractions, followed sluggishly by all other racecourses.
mind you , some are still kicking and screaming over it.

You are at an advantage though adge as you do your homework/know what you are doing. Some oncourse "bookmakers" don't know if they are laying a 2 year old filly or a 5 year old gelding, just know how to copy the "machine".

adge, don't you agree that the punters have deserted the race courses in their droves in the last 10-15 years, look what is on offer off course. betfair, the purple site, and all the off course bookies giving their offers out.New on line bookies starting up giving free bets out, if you have a large enough family, new names, new bank details, fill your boots. There is no need  to go racing now with all the board's showing the same prices and all changing at the same time.

How so adge? Anyone with an IQ of 70 plus knows I'm telling the truth. When the books eventually disappear and all bets are TOTE that's it, end of story.

At least one will be able to get 100k on a horse albeit poorer odds but Betfair will blossom more with their 100% odds. After all, the big players are stuck on here and the liquidity will keep on rising.

Plus the fact Betfair make the markets on all horseracing. It's known as a free tissue...

some strange comments here....so people are leaving the racecourses in their droves mmmmmm    over the last few years attendances are actually up(off meetings apart). it seems to me reading on here that i havent read a single comment about a bookie moaning...all the moaning is coming from the computer screen merchants who never venture out of their front door......oh yes and im mirroring adge here....its been a fantastic summer.take up slippage up....no decline yet.HappyGrinWink

I think the main difference is that bookmakers, although a ghastly bunch of people, do try to work hard unlike Betfair's site, which never seems to fecking work these days.

I doubt if it's people that are leaving, more like punters, being replaced by Chavs and what like. Plus the odd fiver punter taking a price with a 120% + book.

That's because many have became commission agents and can hedge on here.
