Not a jump. But not sure why he did not let the horse drift to the rails' he was so far in front. And it was a fair
old whack he gave the horse.
Report salmon spray October 3, 2014 7:57 PM BST
Horse is a rogue tbf. Don't think for a minute Kelly meant to fall off at that speed.
Report EVILROYSLADE October 3, 2014 7:57 PM BST
No real need to crack the horse. Peculiar stuff.

It was looking around a bit on the bend and clueless when in front. Perhaps should not have resorted to the whip first, was five lengths clear.
Report georgebakerfanclub October 3, 2014 7:59 PM BST
The blokes a half-wit I never back anything he rides, He let me down so many times in the past. Large lay today and small place lay just because of the jockey.
Report winwinwin October 3, 2014 7:59 PM BST

Report EVILROYSLADE October 3, 2014 8:00 PM BST
Just a pretty crazy ride IMO. Sit down hands and heels and coast home.

"Now, here's the plan...pull out all the stops on the home bend, we'll lay all the bets, then smack the nag so hard it swerves...just try to make sure you don't get kicked in the process of jumping off, the profits wont run to a private hospital so we'd have to stick you in one of those awful places full of the great unwashed"

Nominate Kelly on this one as WORST RIDE OF THE MONTH ¬
Report EVILROYSLADE October 3, 2014 8:02 PM BST
Soon as I see his name next to a horse I wonder what's next. Untrustworthy at the best of times but just clueless in that event!

I absolutely agree with this comment - that was my first thought!! I wish a jock would explain it to me???
Report winwinwin October 3, 2014 8:08 PM BST
why when you have gone clear and are on the rail do you change your whip hand why when the horse is hanging right do you hit the horse with extreme force with your left hand so hard that it swerves violently further right WAS it DIRTY or INCOMPETENT

Race 5 - 7:50pm THE STAY AT THE WOLVERHAMPTON HOLIDAY INN MAIDEN STAKES (CLASS 5)

The Stewards noted the fall of Shane Kelly, the rider of REMBRANDT VAN RIJN (IRE), one and a half furlongs out. The Stewards viewed recordings of the incident and found that the fall was caused by the colt shying away from the jockey’s whip. Being satisfied that no other horse or rider was involved, the Stewards took no further action...

Report EVILROYSLADE October 3, 2014 8:38 PM BST
I don't doubt that for one minute Racing. I wouldn't want to jump off at 30 odd mph either. I just found his attitude in that race questionable. He delivered one almighty smack to the horse when perhaps just sitting tight was the answer. Just a bad ride IMO.
Report disco316 October 3, 2014 8:39 PM BST
@racingstar, that was a rogue ride!
Report EVILROYSLADE October 3, 2014 8:41 PM BST
I'm going to watch it again. In slow motion!
Report koikeeper October 3, 2014 8:41 PM BST
Racingstar, agree it was an accident, but a very poor ride, horse was drifting right, yet he smacks it down the left... a blind man could see what was going to happen.

Should have just sat and let it drift across, would still have won with plenty in hand
Report winwinwin October 3, 2014 8:50 PM BST
cant think anyone wants to fall off, but no one seems to be able to explain A)Why did he change his whip hand from right to left (maybe it was hanging into the rail if you want to be forgiving)
B) if it was hanging into the rail surely he would have been careful when changing hands and then when he felt it hanging away from the rail the last thing you would do is hit it hard with your left hand.....
But the hugely intelligent people on here who make excuses for Bad or Dirty rides will no doubt explain..
Report EVILROYSLADE October 3, 2014 8:50 PM BST
Just watched it again. A ludicrous effort from a so called professional jockey. He should be tested for a substance because only someone under an influence would have administered that crack to an already fractious animal. Either that or he really is useless.
Report Ekbalco October 3, 2014 8:54 PM BST
Incompetance of the highest order.
Report racingstar October 3, 2014 9:17 PM BST
I have ridden many race horses and the vast majority could be whipped with either hand and not deviate an inch.
Naturally, this will not make the fav backers any happier and I can see why many think it was a poor ride.
Report winwinwin October 3, 2014 9:20 PM BST
lol .... go for it did you swap riding for politics.
Report racingstar October 3, 2014 9:22 PM BST
Perhaps I should add that I rarely back any of his mounts for obvious reasons.
Tonight was not crooked.
End of debate,imo.
Report winwinwin October 3, 2014 9:28 PM BST
im happy to call it incompetence cos i have no way of knowing what was in his mind, but i have a sneaky feeling that one day a new scandal will hit the newspapers and he will be part of the story, only time will tell.

Report carrot1960 October 3, 2014 9:32 PM BST
nothing crooked about it the horse was playing up going around the bends and just as he gave it a crack down the left hand side the horse moved off to the right,
Report Paterson92 October 3, 2014 11:23 PM BST
This was stupidity and he has certainly not jumped off the horse, not on this occasion anyway. However, Shane Kelly is one of the dodgiest jockeys out there in my opinion. The fact he was part of the Curley coup says it all and I have lost count the amount of times I've seen this jockey booked for a fiddling/landing a gamble job! Diletta Tomassa, Jumbo Prado, Dino Mite and Lineman are just the ones this year off the top of my head!

Only a moron with the IQ of a tree sloth could possibly think he jumped off.
Report drlovepants October 4, 2014 12:14 AM BST
Maybe giggilo, we'll never know?
What I do know however is I was once at Fontwell when a nonentity called Sean Fox jumped off a bonny horse called Ice Saint.
Me and my missus were stood right by the fence as you always could at Fonters, er indoors was a team-chaser of some ability and we couldnt believe what we saw, the horse jumped like a buck, cleared the fence easily and Fox  went to ground like Ashley Young at Old Trafford.
Ice Saint just happened to have drifted from a best morning price of 11-10 to an SP of 4-1,
coincidence? answers on a postcard please...

The example you've picked there was as blatant as has ever been seen, nothing like tonights ride it would be an impossibility to jump off a ride like that at speed with any certainty of safety, infact he only just missed having his head knocked off..
Report doantwin2easy October 4, 2014 12:30 AM BST
you'd be nuts to jump off on the tapeta with the whole field in your wake at 30mph for any amount of money. just not gonna happen.

Presumably Shane was trying to teach the horse to behave. Wasn't trying to get it to win further but probably wanted to show it who was boss. He was unraced at two, so still very green and I imagine this colt will soon become a gelding.

Despite certain reservations about certain other stuff, I was glad to see Shane escaped serious injury.

1200 pounds of horse vs a little sh1t with a pesky whip trying to hit the thing as hard as he can when there is no reason. What a pr1ck he is - perhaps after falling off at 30mph he'll finally realise who is boss and not try and pull another shenanigan like that.
Report doantwin2easy October 4, 2014 12:52 AM BST
I don't particularly want to make excuses, but the horse had a funny head carriage round the final bend, and he has been a beaten favourite on his last two outings. The colt is definitely thinking about whether this game is for him.

But with our cctv view of the action, we can all see that it would have hosed up without recourse to the whip.
Report ima_mazed66 October 4, 2014 4:18 AM BST

Why?  Do you think for one minute Kelly would give a **** about an honest working class person suffering an injury at work?  We all know Kelly is utterly filthy, I for one would be delighted if he sustained an injury that would keep him out of the saddle permanently.
Report Colonel Trautman October 4, 2014 12:11 PM BST
watched it a enough in slow motion and he was already "slipping" from the saddle before he hit it..One thing is for sure he then hit it to make sure he made it hard to stay on and obv with the distance from him and the other horses it "luckily" made it less chance of getting badly hurt..

Report posy October 4, 2014 7:55 PM BST
So to sum up the general view is that he has a notorious reputation (is probably someone who rhythms with 'book') , and whilst he doesn't have an excess of braincells he has sufficient not to deliberately part company with the saddle at 30 mph.
