If anyone from Sedgefield comes on here,well done for yesterday.I have critised Sedgefield consistanly for quite a number of years but yesterday it was a pleasure to be there.The place was like the old Sedgefield,a good crowd with a vibrancy which you can only get at smaller courses(the place was buzzing).A full line of bookies who despite losing yeaterday will be back if you can keep getting the folk through the gate like that.Local sponsors so no doubt there would have plenty of tickets given out & possibly people there who would never have thought about going to the place (let's hope some of them support Sedgefield in the future).The girls giving vouchers out for the Nov meeting a good idea.
However the highlight of the day for me was the marvellous feeling of relaxation & peace between races.No lucky bucket & the constant earache which goes with the bucket(you'll know what I mean).
However you raised the bar for yourselves,showed it can be done.so come on keep it up.
Once again well done,onwards & upwards.

I see that you say the bookmakers lost again..don't they lose every time at Sedgefield ?
Suggest you write to the racecourse CEO with your positive feedback and let him/her know what a good experience you had. Have been to Sedgefield on only a handful of occasions. The first time was 3 or 4 years ago I and I was surprised to discover that they didn't produce racecards. In place of a racecard was a sheet of paper with a list of the day's runners and riders amidst a whole load of local advertising. The sheet was free. When I asked why Sedgefield was unique in not having printed racecards on sale I was told that there was no demand because they were too expensive. Thankfully that experiment didn't last long and it's good to hear that yesterday's "Tommo free" meeting proved so popular.

I believe they have been getting the odd touch now & again lately,probably down to the fact that there's only been about a dozen or just over standing larely.

Myself & Sedgefield management don't I'm afraid see eye to eye.If I was to speak to the boss there(Gill) it would probably only result in a row.I actually paid £12500 for a bookies pitch there,I can see the course from my house yet very rarely attend the place.It was only because it was such a beautiful day that I went yesterday.I appreciate her hands are tied somewhat by the group but she cann't blame the group for everything.This course used to have a buzz to it every meeting until a few years ago since when it has been like going to a morgue.It seems she has at last realised that corporate hospitality isn't the be all & end all.She does appear to me that she is now trying to get the ordinary punters back through the gate but it's taken some time in doing this.
Yesterday,two local pubs & a club sponsored races yet when Northern Racing (I believe it was at the time)took over my local club (Chilton & Windlestone)who used to sponsor there every year were told their sponsorship wasn't wanted.Fair enough they weren't big sponsors but they got a few tickets.However these few tickets got people through the gates & they spent.If they did this to our sponsorship how many others did they do it to & how many racegoers did they chase away?

All points adge to be fair yesterday I had a bad day a 6-1 bashing but there was a good atmosphere yesterday and plenty of cash punters
seems like they may be listening to us at last lads I bet the lst meeting and as tony says it was like a morgue ...the entrance fee needs to be looked at in comparison to other tracks also (hexham a tenner) I hope the management do read this forum as we all should be on the same side x

Just had a look at yesterdays card, the two pubs are probably the only two in the area making money.
The Slaters Arms has a lot of horse racing punters in there who like a good bet although they didn't have much luck with a horse they bought between them some time ago from Kevin Ryan which sadly broke a leg before it had even ran a race and had to be destroyed. They had more luck with a syndicate horse that they had with Ryan, it was called uplifted it landed a touch first time out at Newcastle every betting shop in the town ran out of money.
The Brownlow Arms has a really good restaurant, it's owned by Martin Wayne and his business partner, he owned a sprinter called glencroft and if I remember rightly he had a go at training himself.
Your old local Chilton & Windlestone Club, how's Clive getting on, has he bought the old betting shop yet and took the trade away from Korals?

Thanks for asking about my health & thankfully at the moment I'm on the mend.
The Brownlow Arms is a pub I've used in the past & as you say it has a good restaurant.I've quite a few friends around that area (including a group one winning trainer & several owners)but it's a bit of a pain to get to from here & to be honest we have a pub in the next village (Kirk Merrington) which I'll put against any for value.The landlord in this pub is a racing man & there's usually some decent crack in there.Quite often in there,you'll have a current champion jockey,good trainer,a steward & a few owners.As you say Martyn Wayne did dabble at training for a while after being in the motor industry.
As for Clive,I've not seen him for a while but he was in decent fettle last time I saw him.He still wont have it that he'd have more fun going to Perth for their festival than trailing down the road in March every year.I think he's still trying to suss out how to win on here as are most of us.When I see him I'll pass on your regards & that you were asking after him.
