Just seen two ladies pull up in a retired greyhound van at Plumpton being refused entry by a jobsworth of a gateman. He was so rude I couldn't believe it.
Apparently the girls and the their retired dogs are bucket collecting today and wanted to pull up into the owners and trainers car park to unload but the guy in the car park insisted they go down to the bottom car park. They explained they had four dogs between them and a number of boxes but his words were you aint coming in. Common sense prevailed eventually when I guy on the main intervened.
Hope they raise loads but what an idiot

Walthamstow used to have an annual charity night in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund and some greyhound fans said the same as you, racingstar.

There was nothing 'in your face' from the ladies who were collecting for the greyhound charity at Plumpton today and on my exit the majority were giving willingly.What better place to collect for such a charity than at a gambling venue.
Anyway,when my children wanted a dog I thought about giving a home to a retired greyhound but they wanted a puppy.Now,when I see greyhounds whilst out walking my own dog they come across as not having much of a personality.

More to this than is evident from this thread. If you run a charity slot at Plumpton, you are given a clear location, arrival instructions, unloading location etc etc. It is crystal clear. Clearly some misunderstanding here.

There was no rattling of collection buckets at Plumpton today.The ladies stood quietly with the dogs though some might argue that this might be construed as some form of emotional blackmail,but not for me.
The people that I were with made a contribution,but all are dog owners so that might have had an effect,I would imagine.

I cannot even go to Sainsbury's with Charity Collectors standing outside.

I can't go past a charity box at a race meeting without depositing some coins. This on the basis that the day has cost me so much (or on rare occasions the opposite) I'm not even going to notice.

seriously though , as we know that all racecourse management read these posts on here , I just wonder how plumpton [ and others ] react to this situation at future meetings.

I hope you're right Adge however I have to agree with racing star on the subject of charity collections at racecourses and indeed elsewhere in public.I as a matter of principle refuse pointblank to put any money in collection buckets or jars as there is absolutely no check wehatsoever that the money gets to the frontline;it's often either pocketed by the collector or absorbed by administration charges. My friends when leaving Sandown usually feel obliged to donate money as they leave and probably think me mean not to do so as well however I can live with that.The same at Waitrose and Sainsbury these blo ody people stand in the entrance/exit and time and again I've asked the manager to remove them as they can be intimidating to the old dears who shop there who feel obliged to part with their money. The worst of the lot are those who try to engage you in conversation in Guildford high street to sign up to save the whale etc...these people are generally closet terrorists and just get told to eff off although I have asked them to accompany me to the police station to check their credentials. Needless to say they always back off at that point !
Whilst I'm obviously capable of telling them where to go young twenty something girls like my daughter often get targeted by these creeps and they find it hard to resist the claptrap directed at them.

maybe not quite to the same degree but I'm exactly the same as you, posy .
on the racecourse we have these buckets on a daily basis thrust in front of us , most feel obliged to put a pound in. the good one's like this retired greyhound charity at plumpton and elsewhere get lost amongst the fly by nights and parasites
