That victory, in the 3-yo Maiden at Bath -

Equals last season's Turf wins  = 11

- and is half of his 22 the season before.

Oh for the days of Rodrigo...

Even Henry Cecil couldn't do it with the horses and owners when he lost some of both when they either took their horses elsewhere or a few of his main owners passed away and he was down to 26 winner one season. PCW can still do it if he has the horses to.

Regarding Manton and Michael Dickinson's time there, if I remember rightly the vast majority of the string were 2YOs and he was only there one season so what exactly was Robert Sangster expecting?

Looks like it could have been '6 of one and half-a-dozen of the other', though -

- as they were all 'Bluebood' bred - but most ran pretty appallingly.

very very rarely do I bet on a 2 year old the first time round, but I remember years ago at York backing one of Chapple Hyam's that was owned by Sangster called Rambrino, I backed it 3 times and was stood on the steps thinking what have I done backing a horse first time out for this amount of money? it cantered in and then I think it went on to win at the royal meeting.

8/15 Fav at York - ronnie

It went on to finish 6th in the Coventry - then 4th at Glorious Goodwood - before downhill afterwards.
You got the right - and 'one and only' winning day.

Spoke to him in the street after a Chester meeting two years ago. Discussed the good old days. He said "that was a long time ago". Deserves a change of fortunes.
