SENSELESS thread.

I think a better argument would be Frankel versus something like Dayjur, as nobody would've doubted that after the 2000 Guineas a few years ago, Frankel would've had a penalty tick in the July Cup over 6f which Dream Ahead won.

In answer to the original question, I think Frankel would beat Sole Power comfortably, as after all...he's officially a stone and a half+ the superior horse and he wouldn't be out of his comfort zone over 6f even though 5f might well be tougher.

Onlooker - I know it's 'senseless' but don't enthusiasts enjoy such hypothetical arguments?

- fair enough ....

Usain Bolt - wearing a pair of high-heel shoes - from Imelda Marco's vast collection ...

Against - Imelda Marcos, in a Ferrari, over 100 metres.

What do you reckon Myles?

I can't remember the precise sectionals but didn't Frankel wallop the Palace House Stakes time (in his first 5f of the mile) which was the next race on Guineas Day?

The thing is if Frankel had never gone more than a mile then the thread wouldn't be considered as senseless considering at a mile the way he ran them ragged in the 2000 because and broke the heart of a high cruising speed horse like Canford Cliffs, which would travel on the bridle for most of the race and then just quicken over a short distance and put the race to bed with one burst of speed.

Now that we know Frankel got 10f and on soft ground too it's harder to imagine it could beat a 5f horse at that trip even if it would still do so. I personally think Frankel would be equally effect over a range of several trips though and so would rule it out.

PS - I'm sure you meant the Sussex Stakes Happy

I maybe didn't word that too well Gibberish so apologies for that but I was referring to two races where Frankel made all, those being the 2000gn he won when he ran "them" ragged (as in the whole field) and as you say the Sussex Stakes which where he break CC heart. I wasn't suggesting it was the same race and is meant to read as:

"he ran them ragged in the 2000 and (then or and also) broke the heart of a high cruising speed horse like Canford Cliffs"

I'm aware though that they didn't run in the same 2000gns and also that Frankel got the WFA allowance in the Sussex first time and that was a stick used to beat him with to devalue his defeat of CC by some of the knockers on here. Happy

SOLE POWER - whilst being the exceptional Sprinter of the moment -  - is'beating trees'

Stepper Point, twice  - So what?
Kingsgate Native (race record Flat Turf - 41 runs 5 Wins) FFS !...

...    compared to the Sprinters that DAYJUR, and many others of similar ilk, HAD to beat.

SOLE POWER - last week's Nunthorpe = 57.92 sces

DAYJUR - 1990 Nunthorpe - beat Statoblest 4 lenghts - in 56.16 secs.

Onlooker - I'm sure you will recall Dayjur beating similar trees...that was a piss-poor generation he was annihilating in an era when when we really were struggling to find a decent sprinter - that was further emphasised as just a few years before there was a golden age when we were spoiled rotten and subsequently a great sprinter like Never So Bold (he'd easily sort this present lot out) was unfairly compared to the XXX rated belters between 1978 & 1983 - he was well up to that standard in my view but because he was a trumped-up ageing handicapper that was getting beat from marks in the 70s, his sharp improvement was overlooked as he was hammering bums most of the time.

Ultimately when people slate the likes of Frankel, Sea The Stars & indeed Dayjur (I'll admit I've done so from a form perspective) the clichés like 'you can only beat what's out there' ring true.

I adore frankel . . . but no way would he beat sole over 5 furlongs . . . imo of cause.

My personal opinion was frankel would win over the 5. The performance in the 2000g and the way in which he sustained the gallop would find many a horse out.

Gibberish - Just done some checking on Never So Bold.

He was a well-beaten 7/2 Fav for the Brittania Handicap (1 Mile) off 85 -
- before winning the Great St Wilfred (as a 3-yr-old) off 82.

Following year - he was runner-up to Chief Singer in the July Cup - ending the season by winning the Diadem.
He then won his July Cup the year after.
