weight is allocated according to the official rating (OR) of a horse.

It's pretty irrelevent the actual weight carried, it's more a case of the ratings of the horses it races against and as said by tyred, weight allocated in accordance to official rating within the boundaries of the race conditions.
Todays race is a class 5 but is a 0-75 range, so top weight has a rating of 75 as an older horse and 3 yo top weight is 9-6 both rated 75 as per allowance for weight for age. Race strike ia light ran in last time was a 0-70 band class 5. |

By:
Incedently Strike a Light is rated 70 for future races, but races with just a 6lb penalty tonight so theoretically is still 7lbs well in.
|
|
By:
To summarise,it ran of an O/R of 57 last time and today runs under a 6 lb Penalty which takes its O/R to 63.

If it doesn't shine tonight the handicapper will have another look at its rating of 70.
So don't assume it will run to its best. Many a horse has been run in these circumstances and flopped simply to make a point after an easy win. |
