I'm not Fallon's biggest fan but Chapman is an egotistical fool. Many times he's gone overboard when in particular Spencer or Fallon have ridden a winner when there has been no need to.
|
|
By:
Most people get at racing presenters as "gravy train merchants". Chapman does his best to say what he thinks and gets little support on here. The fact that Fallon the most notable of all the highly straight and honest people in racing has a go at him is much in Matt's favour.
|

By:
Here Here. He does his best to fill in the gaps between races, and says what he thinks. Doesn't mean everyone else needs to think like he does!

Heaven forbid anybody in the media criticising a jockey's ride.......

Chapman might grate on occasion, but at least he's willing to express a 'controversial' opinion like this.
Fallon's retort basically boils down to the trite and pathetic "how many winners have you ridden?" line. |
|
By:
Have to laugh when he says{ if Mick Fitzgerrald or
Jason Weaver had criticized his ride he would be concerned].If Mick Fitz ever criticized any british jock I would pack it all in ![]() |

ballinger ridge was trained by Clare Baldings brother
As Fallon said: 'Jockeys are human beings and human beings make mistakes.' Some mistakes, though, are overlooked more easily than others. The horse is trained by my brother, Andrew, who fancied him to win at Lingfield on the basis that he was wearing blinkers for the first time (to help him concentrate), it was a poor race with only one serious danger and Fallon was riding. Yes, strange as it may seem in the light of recent reports, that is generally considered to be a benefit. Ballinger Ridge is not easy, either to ride or to place in the correct race, but he is much loved by his owners, Hazel and David Barber, who bred him at home, watched him as a foal and sent him into training with realistic hopes of success. 'Everyone realises Kieren made a balls-up, especially him,' Andrew told me, 'but it's ridiculous to suggest that there was anything sinister going on. As if the champion jockey is going to risk his career for the sake of a class H regional race. It's just crazy.' ![]() |

By:
The usual typical nonsense from Fallon. As Dr Gonzo said, 'the how many winners have you ridden' line is absolutely pathetic. Fallon is one of the most awful characters in racing and whilst Matt Chapman is far from perfect, respect to him for having the balls to question what was at best a very strange ride.

'Fallon's retort basically boils down to the trite and pathetic "how many winners have you ridden?" line.'
As do all almost all jockeys it seems, the biggest collection of insecure, pig-headed, thin-skinned people going. Fallon probably thinks he's being really witty when he says "I'd like to see him push a horse around Southwell in deep sand", but that's not the point, is it? That's your job Kieran, you're supposed to be able to do that. I'd like to see Fallon present a six hour racing show on his own analysing every race and trying to keep viewers entertained. He couldn't do it, because he's a unintelligible charisma vacuum, but it doesn't mean he wouldn't be well within his rights to point out Chapman's failings as a broadcaster if he sat there silent, umm-ing and arr-ing or boring the audience. And vice versa. |
|
By:
Agree with the points about Fallon but it's tiresome at this stage being told Chapman says what he thinks. This pont is rubbish. He says what's best for himself. Plenty of poor rides go 'unnoticed' by Chapman because it doesn't serve his purpose to 'say it like it is'. How many Spencer rides(and there's been hundreds to choose from) has he ever criticised? Time and again he has no problem criticising an apprentice's ride but if a senior jockey does the same he says nothing. How many trainers who he constantly tells us has tweeted or texted him has he ever questioned about their horses' poor performance?

Chapman is not perfect but he does highlight more dodgy rides than the rest of them put together. I have at least twice been watching ATR,and I don't watch it that much, when he has started off down a track and rather obviously been told to shut up by his producer.

CJ! Commentator made me laugh when he said Top Cees has two ways of running!! Not half! Trying or not trying!! I booed the bstd home at Cheltenham to!!
|
|
By:
The bstd should have been banned for life then! There would have been no Ballinger Ridge or countless other incidents then!

|
By:
Connections as well Roy. I was at Chester when it 'won' the Cup a few weeks later, never heard a winner get such an awful reception from a crowd. Then the fall out from it leads to The Life closing

Correct CJ. A totally rancid bunch. Never saw a winner come up the hill at Cheltenham greeted by jeers. Until Top Cees. Shame really because the horse was a good one.

I doubt anyone will stick up for the aforementioned "effort" by Fallon that day Magic.

IN a nutshell ....anyone in racing be they the press , jocks, ATR . , trainers , etc . etc they have to toe the line ,, why they can lose their jobs
that guy John MAC is very out spoken (I like the guy ) but the point is he aint a job to lose all the others can be sacked .. so they don't knock the game ...simple |
|
By:
Doubt whether the reception was as bad as that Hill House got at Newbury when it won the Schweppes. the booing began before it jumped the last and got louder until it entered the winners' enclosure. Josh Gifford looked like a frightened weasel caught in the headlights. I'm sure he thought he was going to get fergalled.

In remember it well SS. It seems that certain shady stables become almost revered in the game. Even nowadays they refer to certain outfits as "Liking to land a touch!" Thats to be expected, but not when horses have been nailed to the floor previously at the punters expense. Ryan Price was given almost godlike status by many.

That Top Cees ride was incredible and the fall out from it was a very sad day for racing. As someone else said Ima Mug will be along soon to defend him no doubt but anyone with eyes and a brain knows what happened.
Sadly the gravy train that most journalists and presenters are on means that when someone like Chapman questions a ride they are not given support. |

I'm sure the next time Prescott pulls off one of his 'strokes' and wins with a horse running over it's proper trip for a change Chapman will question the whole scenario instead of congratulating him as he always does.

On the Sunday Forum Chapman said there was no way Bond City would have won that race whatever Lynch had done on him

he's not stopping them though
the form is there to be analysed ... breeding etc. |

that post referred to Prescott

I agree with Curious Cat regarding Prescott. I don't see any issue with running a horse over an inadequate trip as long as the horse is doing its best. You can argue the system is wrong but no rules are being broken.

Have to agree re Prescott. Just playing it straight as the rules allow. Doesn't warrant respect though from the cap doffing brigade. Sir Mark? Now that is a joke! Almost as bad as Sir Ian Botham, Sir Matt Pinsent, Sir Elton John, Sir Peter Fahy etc etc etc . End of rant!!!!!Perhaps we should name all those Knighthoods that we do not agree with!!!

Well sayed. Plus he done a wonderful piece at Sir HRAC funeral. He loves the game and the good guys in it, and sez it as it is . .Nothing wrong with that. As for Fallon ![]() |

I don't know if Michael Stoute ever had a pop at Fallon when he rode for him, but if he did, did Fallon ever reply to him - 'hey Stoutey, how many winners have ridden'?
No, I wouldn't have thought so either.. Mind there has been some comedy gold from Fallon in the Weekender. I still remember when he did the Off The Piste interview and one of the questions was: What's the best advice you've ever been given?, to which Fallon quoted something Aidan O'Brien had apparently told him: 'Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer' Aidan O'Brien, aka Michael Corleone ![]() |

George .. that's spot on when your at the top of the game... any game you have more enemies than friends.
