I still find it remarkable that Labrokes, Coral, William Hill and to a lesser extent Victor Chandler had the near-entirety of the UK retail bookmaking business between them in the 90s and not one of them managed to translate that to dominating the online business a decade later.

That's because they are too afraid of winning punters and close their accounts for winning a monkey.

lads were the worst longines - they had two WSOP main event winners who played on their site and somehow managed to make absolutely nothing of it. while Pstars built their entire business around the one win of Chris Moneymaker.

btw anyone know what happened to carrot1960?

Longbrige.
Could say the same for Woolworths v Amazon.

Yet,supermarkets, banks, clothes retailers all seemed to manage it.

The big 4 bookies, clearly dropped the ball with on line, perhaps telling shop customers to try on line didn’t make sense.

But this left space for 365,Betfair to move in.

No one has ever asked me in a big 4 shop to open up an online account,or pushed, promoted their on line.
Example free bets today etc (I wouldn’t personally be tempted, but many would)if you set up an online account in store.then link the 2 options, like click and collect.

They seem to be 2 separate enterties, probably because 2 separate management, effectively competing against each other.why drive customers out of shop to on line.

Plus all their sites seemed crap when first launched, think they ve all had new sites multiple times trying to catch up ,analogue bosses not understanding digitial future.or maybe believing they were untouchable has they believed they’d got the industry covered.

It’s now 2 worlds, the shops are effectively the bargain basement of the retail offer, hoping high street location might catch a bit of footfall rather than a destination offer.

But even this isn’t great, was at haydock yesterday,William have 3 oncourse shops(a lot really).put a bet on in one shop near paddock, walked to main stand ,watched race, went to collect under stand at shop 2,was told, you have to go to the shop I put bet on at.
It was literally 20 yards away,on the same track.god knows why this is a thing,
Mind you ,if collecting they might hope a few stragglers might not be arsed collecting,so might be a crafty policy.
