I don't know how he does it, it's a mystery! (wink)
his horses are usually well exposed and don't appear to have been campaigned for this meeting (last winner ran 6 days ago at Ascot). But for some strange reason a lot of them run a stone above themselves at this meeting, the first race on day 1 a good example.
and then at the Ebor meeting, his local big track, they're totally hopeless!

yes, not a good trainer to follow on the short ones. It's baffling how some of them win at decent prices when super-exposed (as most of his horses are), Heavy Metal last weekend a good example, and the winner of last year's Cesarewitch was another (33/1 shot, running average all season, missed break and won easily)

it's as if he waves a magic wand over his horses, the same horses that have been "always trying" all season long. He's very well connected in the industry and is also vet

maybe they like a bet or 2 but plenty of their winners go unbacked, Sennockian Star a good example. Most stables like a gamble, they are no different in that respect
looking forward to the Ebor meet, where they will be awful as usual

He also makes the aw interesting as quite a few of his run up decent speedfigures, there are at least three that look a stone in on the aw yet have done nothing since the turf started, probaby the only trainer that puts horses up on the aw that you can see 6 months in advance of debuts being 2 stone higher in the weights..

Yeah it was a joke but I agree about fitness and peaking at the right time. Too many punters (and trainers imo) do not understand that "they're not machines".

Noticed a few winners achieved their to speed or RPR prior to Goodwood races. His 2yo nursery winners tend to have little form. Two or more runners in 3yo hcps provide quite a number of winners. Weak area seems 2yo maidens. Bit of study work to do over winter

Check his long terms stats and you can see that his strike rate is generally better on right handed tracks (apart from Goodwood, it's high at Beverley, Carlisle, Hamilton) and also better on tracks that favour front runners (e.g Chester).
But anywhere flat and left handed with a 3F+ home straight (Ayr, Doncaster, Haydock, Nottingham, York), the strike rate is noticeably worse.
Only my guess, but I've always assumed it's down to the layout of his gallops, combined with his use of front running tactics for so many of his horses.
