THREE people have been sacked from an Oldham William Hill branch after feeding a vulnerable customer a dog-food pie while others barked at him.
This disturbing act, carried out at the Huddersfield Road branch in Oldham, came to light over the weekend.
The victim who is a regular customer in the shop is well-known for placing very small bets at around 5p and often asks staff for food because he cannot afford any.
On this occasion staff obliged and the now former manager of the branch came up with the plan to mix Pedigree Chum in a meat and potato pie, and serve it to him on a plate with dog biscuits on the side.
Other customers were all in on the joke and shockingly barked at the man while he ate it and the manager later joked on the phone to a friend that he would soon have a “shiny coat”.
It is believed the following day she humiliated him again but this time she stirred dog food into an Uncle Ben’s snack pot before giving it to him.
Witnesses contacted the company to report the incident and an investigation was launched before CCTV footage which showed them discussing their plan was found.
It is believed that the manager was sacked in a disciplinary hearing for feeding dog food to the customer, while the more junior members of staff were dismissed for not reporting her.
A spokesman for William Hill said: “We were wholly disappointed and appalled by the incident.
“Appropriate action was taken with those involved and the case was reported to the police.”
I used to work with a manager who hated people chewing pens. So to put them off he started cleaning his ear wax out with the end of them, then leave them on the counter.
Funny thing was that it was the staff who did the chewing, so he left them on our side of the counter. There was one girl who chewed them so much she left the end squashed flat. His tactic worked though, she was soon cured of the habit, after chewing a couple of his special pens.

a despicable act, though no worse than encouraging vulnerable members of society to gamble every penny they can lay their hands on in highly addictive FOBTs.i laugh anytime i hear any bookmaking firm attempting to take a moral stance because we all know they will do anything they can get away with.

I doubt very much if the three staff who were sacked are laughing now. I hope their mortgages depended on their wages.
Some good tent deals in Argos sale..

Disgusting and cowardly, they are worthless toilet bowl stains and I just hope they don't find jobs in residences for the elderly where all sorts of characters appear to get through the vetting procedure, if such procedures exist.

being funny requires a certain intelligence, I'm sure all those who are that way know this. It seems everyone else knows it too - but the not-funny people on here, clearly have no idea at all that they do not posess that intelligence. Which is quite funny.

Amazing what passes for humour these days. Good riddance to the lot of them.
Has it made the national press? William Hill deserve every bit of bad publicity that might come their way.
Have they sought out the customer and done anything in terms of compensation? Perhaps Ivan-Duke can cook him a meal for the next 365 days?

Some poor sod like that is probably the only type they can bully, which says a lot about them. If he'd been a relative of mine I'd have gone and kicked their c&&ts in for being such a-holes.

Seems like a typical case of someone not happy in their job, which is understandable for bookies' staff, so much in the same way as some bus drivers seem to close doors and pull away when they see passengers running for the bus as if it's the only sense of power and enjoyment they get form their job, these bookie staff seemed to think if they could belittle someone else then they could somehow feel a bit better about themselves.
Obviously I don't know how much of an active part any junior members will have played and maybe the CCTV might answer that, but if they were some spotty faced kid young enough to be the manager's son or straight from college young girl who had a choice of bookies counter or Tesco till, then they might not have thought reporting a more senior member of staff was the percentage call here.

Ar**holes deserve the sack nothing funny about that maybe someone will report them to the welfare when they go to pick up their benefits so that will be stopped as well so they can know what its like to be vulnerable.

6-month ineligibilty for benefits if you get sacked or leave job voluntarily. They'll be hungry enough for Dogmeat pies themselves after a month or two. Which would be richly ironic were it to happen.

Top be fair a large part of the population have been unknowingly eating horsemeat pies for years and years . And were the big supermarkets prosecuted for selling them ? Were they Fook.

On the other - and far more likely - hand, you have experienced it and you now fail to empathize with others so treated, on the basis that 'no-one was there for me when it happened, so fck 'em'

it iis funny, you're right - but i skip right over that part to the human-failure part of the story; the fact of so-called adults being so unevolved, so immature, as to still find bullying people 'worth doing'. So much more interesting, as the explanation of the 'why' is not easy to see.

well maybe because you read the story you became involved with one of the characters
i just read the title
Were it a story about people mistreating some vulnerable member of society then anger would overtake any other emotion , but until i read the story i can only assume all concerned were adults of able body and mind

How exactly is it funny? Would it be more or less funny if it was dog shiit they tricked him into eating? How about if they said, "Hey Fred, we've just installed showers round the back. Help yourself". Would you have chortled merrily if he wandered wide eyed and innocently into the gas chamber? Where does funny end and sick begin? Funny brings down those at the top a peg or two or laughs at our own idiosyncracies. In what way is taking advantage of the weak and their trust funny?

Now having read the actual story i can see the sickness in the folk who done this and given the opportunity i would take a long heavy object and .......
And although im appreciative of the ten minutes of happiness and laughter the title gave after reading the thread im saddened vulnerable people are preyed upon by what i can only describe as the dregs of society , evil and immature people who life will one day catch up with in a big way

The first three paragraphs give a pretty good indication we weren't dealing with a hedge fund manager.

Apologies hello. I hate the vulnerable being mistreated be they fellow human beings or animals. If we can't help out with a little individual kindness then the least we can do is not go out of our way to taunt or abuse peple we come into contact with. These "people" are the dregs.

Something as small as saying hello can change the way a person feels , vulnerability isn't always a visible thing and im always amazed how little people understand or how little they can tolerate anything that doesn't fit into their perfect world
all you can do is your little bit to help educate , and just help those who need it with a little kindness

That's the point hello. Who knows? The guy may have prioritised his eating habits in order to socialise in this way with people he may have come to see as friends in some way. For all they knew he had nothing and/or nobody to go home to but an empty home and four walls. Would it really have been such an imposition on their day to spend a couple of minutes passing the time and if he was struggling bring him a little something in to show that the world doesn't have to be a mean and nasty place all the time.

It just reinforces the view I came to a long time ago, that a lot of people in this world are just pieces of crap. And it’s something that transcends race and national boundaries.

I heard a better one from a mate who knew someone who worked as a cashier for his local bookie....
The cashier in question had put a small wager on the next race of the day and was in the middle of watching it when an old boy called Brian came up and asked for an apple juice (fridge was behind counter). The cashier said "no problem Brian, I'll be with you in a minute, I'm just watching this race." 30 secs later Brain shouts over "can I have that apple juice now?" to which the cashier again replies "I'll be with you in a minute."
Anyway the horse he'd back get's chinned on the line and 3 secs later Brian asks for the apple juice again. So cashier tells him that they're out of apple juice, but he'll get one from the back. He goes out back and is gone for a good 3-4 mins. The manager wonders what's taking so long so goes out to backroom to find cashier rubbing the apple juice carton around his **** and around his sweaty balls... Cashier goes back into shop and says "there you go Brian, one nice apple juice for you." Brian sits down, puts the straw in and gleefully sips away... Every 30 secs cashier shouts out "how's that apple juice Brian?" to which Brian says "lovely" while manager watches on, trying not to fetch up his lunch!

Jimmy Five Bellies put cat poo in a pie and Gazza ate it, so it could of been worse.
It is a good policy not to buy fast food food from anyone on minimum wage.

Surprise, surprise a much bigger headline story in today's Post of a William Hill punter winning £95,000 from a 2p EW Goliath.
Hills spokesman Jon Ivan-Duke said 'He came so close to landing a million, but it's brilliant that a punter staking such a small amount can win a life-changing sum in just three hours of racing.'
Presumably, he was unavailable for comment on the other story.
