Rarely post on here but I am sick and tired of watching Hughes not ride out a finish once the chance of winning a race has gone.  Magic City, case in point, ridden so tenderly once his chance had gone yet traded 1.01 to be placed.  And I backed him to be placed.  So frustrating.

if it was your horse... you'd want to have an easy race after winning chance had gone...

Rides for the owners not the punters, he's said it many a time, caveat emptor when you take up hughes for a place

it happens time and time and time again.  Hughes failing to ride out a horse to make a place.  Would love to see how many times his mounts trade at 1.1 or less and dont place.

if it was my horse I'd sooner be placed than unplaced

i dont mind as i don't place bet but imagine it does do peoples heads in. As for the quote about riding for the owners, surely they want place money?

Don't know but that's a direct quote from hughes himself, maybe hannon-type owners not really in such dire need of place winnings

doesn't matter - the rules are clear.  They are prob worried he will take another hissy fit if they do anything.

in todays case 1st and 2nd were places so riding out to beat the Charlton horse wouldn't have been placed, it's a risk of backing laying the extra place due to non runners on betfair .... i laid the Charlton horse for a place and sort of knew my fate when I realised it was a Hughes ridden horse vying for the third spot

Bring back Willie Carson.  At 70+ he'll still be a 100% trier and probably better than Hughes!

just did a quick search on RI for the places hughesy ridden horses get when beaten by more than 2 lengths:-

2nd 7
3rd 4
4th 11
5th 12
6th 5
7th 5
8th 4
9th 5
