yes but there are always quiet spells in my experience and then all of a sudden you can see a spree of winners from nothing.

this happens every season a few times

plenty of his newmarket runners ran ok on saturday

other selection aryal a nr yesterday

a poor friday, will be cutting back on aw winners not proven on turf and relaxing the track bias which has been too high when other factors have been right (too many winners have slipped through).

surprisingly no selections today with beverley and catterick tracks that are right up there for finding winners.
Report stridingedge May 28, 2014 12:14 PM BST
having a real headache with he 6:30 race at beverley, bureau ticks every box and would be an obvious selection if the ground were faster.

overall halling stats for MJ win 49-199 (25%) £27.04 places 84 (42%)

on good/firm

win 23-59 (39%) £48.05 places 32 (54%)

this regresses to soft or worse

wins 0-10 (0%) places 1 (10%)

in the entire sample there is no doubt the majority of MJ horses appreciate better ground and in this race his other runner will definitely go on the ground but isn't as strong on the other criteria though is quite strong in its own right Cry

am really waiting for some sustained dry weather when i'd expect some sprees of winners as the ground gets faster, it's been quite frustrating recently.

really don't know what to do here, i'm hoping he pulls bureau out tbh

Mambo Rhythm, relativeky disappointing again at Redcar after a better run at Leicester, when not looking the easiest. There was a good suggestion from the RP analyst after the Leicester run, given the good record of Authorized's progeny in a hood, she wants trying in one!

You missed one today but also see you are back on the A/W? Wouldn't waste my money on tonights though imo!

i have done a few on the aw because someone moaned about me taking them out when i wanted flat only.

i did miss a winner indeed today

travel is given a final chance as its either completely gone at the game or is a far better prospect on the aw, it was doing ok but has hardly gone a yard on turf.

don't really like the handicappers at goodwood, of course some of these perfectly capable of bouncing back to form at prices but they don't fit with what i'm after.

senockian star would be the most interesting, course form an obvious huge plus at epsom but gut feeling is it's just a shade too high now in the weights, though certainly wouldn't be surprised with a big run.

the mdn at goodwood this evening sees a horse that totally flopped on debut when very well fancied at ayr on tacky ground. MJ has good record with once raced 2yo mdns at the track, fanning is 4/7 since 2003 on these types and one of these was beaten over 30l on debut.

so

6:35 goodwood jungle cat 15.5 (if > or = 13.0)

this to me would be worth a punt at these sort of odds.

obviously well aware this could flop completely again but that's going to be the gauntlet i'm running on plenty of his runners.

Report pinstcker June 6, 2014 11:51 PM BST
Striding - you seem to have found a promising selection methodology however it sounds as though you are also applying judgement to the selections it throws up one of which is price. Unless you are very good at compiling a tissue (which I am not) or your criteria rank the selections in terms of % chance this will definately result in winners being missed. Is a horse really a bet at 10/1 but not at 8/1 there may be people who are that good at odds compiling but not many. I know that many on here will say that price is everything but that is only true in so much as you need to be backing horses at greater odds than their true chance whether that be 20/1 or 1/10 if your selection criteria identify horses that are available at greater than their true odds then over the long term you will obviously win.

I would suggest running a test removing any SP criteria and just  backing all of the qualifiers regardless of price to see if that produces a profit - if you can show a profit at SP then your criteria really do have potential.

I know this suggestion will cause ridicule in some quarters as there is a general belief that it is not possible to make a profit at SP but I believe that it is as long as you are identifying horses that for whatever reason are underbet by the majority of punters

Best of luck

Report stridingedge June 7, 2014 12:16 PM BST
thanks for the comments guys, i agree pins about not worrying about the prices, there will be no more restrictions.

a lot of runners today, 5 in the edinburgh cup at musselburgh, he won it in 2012 with 5 runners (scatter dice 16/1) but i certainly wouldn't like to choose which of his will head the pecking order today.

staying at musselburgh the one i am interested in today is in the race before. king of macedon now has every chance of appreciating a mile imo. two respectable efforts on turf as a 2yo, winning a 6f mdn on debut and then staying on after a slow start at catterick over 7f when 2nd to ventura quest off 79 in a nursery.

3 runs so far as a 3yo, 6f at windsor was probably too sharp now and then a no show after a slow start at york in a better race (a race where it paid as is often the case there to be up with the pace). the last effort at haydock (7f) was much more encouraging, away better this time but always looking just a bit short of pace before keeping on to the finish, the effort suggested a bit of juice in the ground should hold no fears.

the horse runs off 78 today and is worth a chance up to a mile for the first time, fanning has a decent record at the track with 3yo hcps for MJ and this one can hopefully get us back on the winning trail. obviously if the rains come and the ground deteriorates this becomes a more risky proposition so hope any rain arrives later.
