isnt being policed properly, the aw is just a guessing game because of the pace angle, and you have to swerve loads of jumps races because of trainers like v williams, imo the game is killing itself.I am a die hard and even im thinking of walking

TheNorfolkMafia • February 9, 2014 3:38 PM GMT I've lost the last two days! -21.46 -58.95 But hey, we're alive!
I'd only ever concern myself, if i had a losing week!

You were claiming that it quite simplistic (to win) - after the first at Southwell.
I was tempted to reply ....
Come back at the end of the year - when the next 15,000 races have been run .... if you are still posting, that is.
It only took 2 hours - for you to Change Your Tune ...
Not 11 months, and 15,000 races.

Set myself a small target everyday as soon as I reach it out I go,have had years of indiscipline so happily everyday results hate talking about it,to-day e.g.Rubys mount High Importance didn,t have the figs to win the race at best but with about 4 to jump it was all but tailed off trading at 19s so was well worth the risk, finished well beaten.I know it,s not everyones cup of tea but I think it can be done.

id concur with this, but id also add grab the antepost value before its gone.....
2013 was my best year since 2004 on the horsesfocus on high grade racing mostlyid concur with this, but id also add grab the antepost value before its gone.....
OP is correct it is very difficult but by no means impossible. Generally I ignore 'form' and employ a number of tested back/lay systems which have long term proven profitability albeit with modest returns. The difficulty comes in just sticking to the systems especially when there are days which don't throw up a selection. There is then the temptation to bet on outside races albeit to smaller stakes and cumulatively these bets tend to make an overall loss.Sticking to proven systems and will power and a good staking plan are the necessary requirements.

OP is wrong - not very difficult at all. Horse Racing IMO is the easiest sport/betting medium to win at as odds compilers have no chance of getting it right with the amount they have to do.
Yes, to be successful you need to know your oats and studying form is very important despite what all the sceptics seem to think but also being able to read between the lines and understanding trainers is also important.

I work on the basis that value is everything and, of course, as part of that knowing the intricacies of the form of your chosen discipline. Biggest problem I've found is dealing mentally with the long losing runs that inevitably occur but I hope I've seen enough now to cope with these ... I could be proved wrong!
Guru - take it things are going ok despite the weather/ ground?

Onlooker..... My reply after the 1st at Suvv yesterday was this....
Onlooker.....a 12's poke pays 12's......Derby or class 6 at wolver....
That in no way implies the game is easy but was a reply to you where you said whoever bets on that standard of race wants their head looked at.
I had a decent day yesterday but that does not make the game any easier imo.

The Pies - yeh recovered most of Jans losses. Still don't like heavy ground though with horses racing wide apart etc, sometimes going too fast/slow - just makes results more random.
As for horses in general too many years of very similar % profit to stake makes me think it is a pretty easy game to win at. Getting on on the other hand is a far bigger challenge to worthwhile sums.

Prior to the advent of Exchanges i would say that i made a few quid about 1 in 6 years. Since Exchanges came along it has forced our bookie friends into offering some competitive value..For the first time they had to compete with BOG being their best option.
And no less the access to to internet betting has been a massive help to every committed punting There is a now a wealth of info to access at your fingertips including free info from Timeform and the like..A crucial assist has been the development of price comparison via oddschecker.
I have to say that in the last 4 years i have turned in a consistent profit..Tho i probably have my head ina racing paper or looking at some internet racing info about 10 hours a day...Thats because i enjoy it.
Discipline..a strong knoweledge of recing ..as posted above..not so much pounds and ounces..but how trainers operate ..market moves..breeding of horses..jockey bookings..all that goes into the mix for sure..and yes i take notice of some respected racing journos and sometimes back a few they have tipped up..and yes i follow pricewise..its a dedicated game! But in the end the majority of my punting profit is m own...but sure it def can be done with dedication on a consistent basis..the downside is it really eats into your time.
The other downside and as tackled by RUK restricting accounts or banned..will leave that topic for now.
But with discipline, time spent following the sport, knowkedge of the game, oh and yes there is no doubt many more money horses win than you realise...you can enjoy the sport and make some worthwhile cash

Best advice I can give anyone is to ignore the hype. Horses are often talked up by tv pundits and those associated with the stables.
Prime example yesterday. All the talk was about how much improvement could be expected from plinth and Ivan Grozny. I backed the winner at 7's in the morning as it was the form proven horse and was a stupid price due to the hype of the horses that finished 3rd and 4th. It is not always as easy as this but value is often staring you in the face! Sorry for the messy post.

Agree Nightfly, horses (and gambling in general) is as good as it has ever been for punters in respect of competitiveness of the books prices and info available. For me free access to Sporting Life videos has put a whole new complexion on things. Watching races and forming my own opinion rather than relying on comments in running has hugely changed the way I assess form.
As you and Guru allude to/ say, the downside is getting on. Surprisingly not really a problem for me yet but I expect (maybe even hope) it will be soon. Guru - our recent conversation (thanks for that)has made me think about and start to plan for this.

Last week i spent a bit time going over my last years bets. Its quite apparent that i would struggle to end up in front backing at SP.
The major issue facing me at present is getting on early to any reasonable amount of money. For example a couple of weeks ago lads were going 12/1 about Irish Saint so i asked for £100 at 12s ,they allowed me £2.50 at that price then promptly cut the price to sevens. Betfair used to be my first port of call for early prices but sadly their early prices follow the bookmakers nowadays.
I dream off having access to a high earning footballers account, where pp or the like lay huge bets to high profile compulsive gamblers who lose on a continual basis. One can dream.
