Very sad to see such a good one not getting the chance to fulfil its potential. A big blow for Willie Carson and his team.
CHRISELLIAM, a wonderful advert for trainer Charlie Hills and Ladbrokes' co-favourite for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas, was put down on Friday due to the effects of a foot infection.

Europe's champion two-year-old filly of 2013 had been under treatment for a poisoned off hind for a couple of weeks and reports last month indicated that the infection was under control.

However, it emerged on Wednesday that the winner of the Fillies' Mile and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf had been transferred from her Lambourn stable to Newmarket Equine Hospital for closer supervision.

Hills told the Racing Post on Friday: "The vets were unable to get the infection under control with the antibiotics.

"She went up for surgery earlier today and they found the infection had spread and she had to be put down. It was progressing into the pedal bone. She has had the problem for a month and during that time every effort has been made to resolve it but unfortunately it was uncontrollable."

Chriselliam raced for a partnership of former champion jockey Willie Carson, Chris Wright and Emily Asprey, and all three were looking forward to a Classic campaign with a filly who cost 40,000gns as a yearling and had already earned £449,766.

"To me she played a massive part of my training career so far," added Hills.

"She was hugely talented, with a wonderful temperament. She never lost her appetite through the last month and was a fantastic patient, which is a tribute to her."

Wright also tweeted: "RIP Chriselliam. A true champion on both sides of the Atlantic.

"Only the good die young. By far the best we have ever had or will ever have."
