Some generous soul has just payed 2K for Chelt Tatts 75.

I am truly flabberghasted. If you Gave me 2k and said there's the pitch.. go and trade it.. I'd stay at home! :(

Please tell me you are being ironic with regards to Cheltenham tatts demo.  I managed to sell number 46 fortunately as I had already decided that I wasn't going again, whether it sold or not.

Sarcastic rather than ironic, before you correct me.  The irony is that the badge charged to such a pitch is at 'premium' rates Laugh

Stratford have a good relationship with the bookmakers.  An individual tried to get the rails relocated before without success as the only reason was their personal gain at the expense of everyone else and the track management wouldn't have it.
Report REGIT January 13, 2014 10:23 AM GMT
they could move them to 1234 in tatts and nobody would do anything.

Rails rules Regit?
Report wasnot January 13, 2014 10:33 AM GMT
Stratford is different regit to be fair.  At the bookmakers meeting the management asked us what we'd like to do with the marketing fee money to promote the ring.  They try to help us where they can, I have no problems with them.  That puts them on a list on one out of all the courses I attend that I can say that about.
Report REGIT January 13, 2014 10:34 AM GMT
racecourses rule ribero.could you believe how bad wethrby was on saturday.nice day but £16 to get in.race 3 just summed it up.very little info about the stewards cos they were judging the best xmas jumper competition.ive not been to that meeting before and in future apart from cheltenham i will not be going out in jan or feb.how the bad picks make it pay is amazing.respect to anybody who has a go but do they actually make a profit.
Report REGIT January 13, 2014 10:44 AM GMT
wassy i know your clued up on rules etc.
cheltenham badge on jan 1st its 7 or 8 times cos of attendance.this year cos of worst weather ever(couldnt build joint so came home)crowd 55% of usual how does it work for next year.
wouldnt happen in a hundred years but wouldnt it be nice if cheltenham wrote to books who bet and thanked them and returned 2 times entry cos of attendance.would have been the perfect meeting for everyone to say NO THANKS and left them to it.
Report intheknow January 13, 2014 10:44 AM GMT
i guess when the buyer is revealed then we will all have an opinion if they have paid too much for it or have a potential bargain
Report wasnot January 13, 2014 10:49 AM GMT
I'm not really clued up at all regit.  All I go on is the contracts.  I can't imagine one years' attendance based on the worst weather (even for Cheltenham) in living memory is a basis for reducing the badge next year.  I agree though that if I was in charge I would do as you suggested as a gesture of good will and thanks.  Suppose it depends on how the management view us at that track.
Report REGIT January 13, 2014 10:51 AM GMT
intheknow if a ladbrokes pitch didnt reach reserve would they be able to sell it for less than the underbidder to someone else or would they have to be able to justify it to the shareholders cos some of the pitches that wont reach the reserve have some high bids.eg catterick flat.

Is it possible to say how much % approx. the value of pitches has dropped over the last 10 years, rails and ring.
During the last 10 years both online, and exchange betting have really come to the fore, not to mention other things,so was wondering how much this has impacted on the value of pitches.
I understand that some key picks may have actually increased, but what is the overall picture, bearing in mind that there are only so many top picks?
Answers appreciated,thanks in advance.

You are quite right to do so wassy - Happy New Year to you and yours by the way. In the absence of a response hitherto may I be allowed to try to answer my own question ( no need to call the chaps in white coats - yet !! ). The brief answer is 'No - it is not fair'. Cast your mind back to pre pitch sales and in particular before exchanges existed and perhaps you can maintain that the system worked perfectly well then but why doesn't it now ? More to the point in those 'golden days' the system could even have been considered to be fair or more accurately fairer. Terms and conditions have changed radically since then, of course, especially for the lower ( inferior ) picks. Turnover has reduced, one of the main contributory reasons being that superior picks no longer hedge with the back lines of the ring and badge fees amonst other costs have, thanks to the agreements put in place, increased making life for those with moderate picks even more challenging. The case for the defence is ?

Report democrat January 14, 2014 12:28 PM GMT
Stephen Little's publication on sale prices made very interesting reading showing how in most cases values, over the years, had depreciated. Some of those who sold all their portfolio at the earliest opportunity without doubt made a killing yet there are some instances of individual pitches being worth a lot more now than they were sold for at that time. One reason for the latter can be explained by the creation of new areas which has favoured a few and disadvantaged many.

Agreed ribero plus for some, i.e those with many pitches, the penny had not dropped as to how to put them into the auction. By that I mean singly or in 'geographical groups. Some simply entered one or two lots consisting of many pitches which immediately excluded some potential bidders and created a situation ripe for opportunists with the necessary resources - we mustn't mention ay names of course.
