Maybe he wanted to be 2nd?
Report gbtp January 9, 2014 7:20 PM GMT
Nope, he was trying his best I would say.

He seems often to look for trouble in a race.

I think he has lost the plot - was good last season but has lost too many (that he should have won) this season

An Interesting ride for sure.

Geeaitch 20th Dec - Led, ridden and headed over 2f out, hung left and weakened final furlong
Geeaitch 4th Dec - Led, 4 lengths clear 4f out, edged left and headed well over 1f out, one pace
Geeaitch 22nd Nov - Prominent, driven along over 2f out, hung left and stayed on same pace final furlong

Yet tonight in a 6 runner contest - Held up, headway over 5f out, ridden to chase winner over 1f out, stayed on under pressure
In a race that the Racing Post analysis writer describes thus - The concluding contest was a moderate middle-distance handicap which turned into something of a sprint off a steady gallop.

It does make you wonder why, on a hoss that usually leads, against just 5 rivals, Carson decided to hold him up? Perhaps this is the best way to ride him, but I can't help think he surrendered a tactical advantage to the eventual winner for sure.

The trainer probably told him to hold the horse up.

Thanks. I hadn't considered that.
