1/6th is outlawed from jan 1st. obviously the fighting fifth was a bad each way race. those that went 1/6th will be win only next year but plenty are betting overbroke at 1/5th so the value will be there

91% place book and 123% win book. Still money to be made.

especially when you bet place only , harry . tends to put exchanges to shame  [ but I wasn't there]

I appreciate your position Adge, very admirable, but it must cost you plenty, especially when other books are offering worse value.

biggest disaster was not being a newbury.
had a shocker there on this day last year [ five well backed favs ] so I sold the pitch

At my figures on the race I was about 80% at 1/5th so I bet win only.I don't mind betting down to about 96% but there's no way I'm going to work to 80% on anything.

21 runner h'cap the standard on-course terms (as dictated to us by the racecourses) is 1/5th odds 1234.  If Tanya thinks they should be 1/4 1234 she is mistaken.

at a 1/4 yesterday wasnot you were around the 98 to 102 mark like allpoints I can put up with around 96 this swardean character thinks we should go a 1/3rd perhaps he either thinks we don't have to pay entrance/staff/petrol and badge money,or we are a charitable organization.

disappointed with the place to be honest wasnot but in fairness I thought last sunday was fine, was made a good offer so sold, bought a couple off other pitches including newbury nh didn't bet thurs/fri but went it looked very hard to say the least those 2 days, saturday I thought the money was very good indeed proper jumping punters not like the time wasters in the summer.

how was towcester ?

Big crowd at Towcester and some decent punters for a change.  Typically bad results when there are people there though.

another factor in towcester wasnot was the weather I am out most days and can put up with most, but that place is ridiculous.

The problem with Newbury NH is that there is only really one decent day per year and you have to pay 7x £30 for your badge plus the mugging fee for one day's work!

I don't find that taking money on the NH is the problem, its keeping any!

do bookmakers think that is a good deal for punters when years ago it was 1/4 in 16 runners+ 1234 ?

why have racecourses dictated this ?

Wassy,

Yes I agree that the business at Towcester was good ysterday. Did you miss the gamble 8/1 into 3/1 and trotted up.

Have the standard terms been agreed at Towcester as they negotiate independantly from the RCA?.

Was everybody at your end of the ring the correct terms?

take your point about the cost to bet at newbury, they have 5 Saturdays this season, the challow hurdle clashes with the welsh national, tote gold trophy day I am in south Africa the late march fixture I will be at a friends 50th,which leaves me to bet at just one other, that of course may be a blessing in disguise that said I did consider if it was worth it this season thankfully I choose to bet yesterday.

or is it as some say on here, a matter of come racing

Harold

there were plenty going 1234 1/4 at newbury yesterday, when bookmakers were asked there thoughts on the ew terms apparently the majority wanted 16 to 21 runners at 1/5th,personally I voted for the original terms as I feel we need to at least compete with the off course firms, its not ideal but its better than it was as things were getting out of control as some outfits completely took the pish out of the problem created by the gambling commission.there is an bookmaker who bets to the original place terms at all the west country tracks, and at plenty other tracks the chances are you will find at least one.
By:

When: 01 Dec 13 16:26
whiskyalpha, as far as I know, yes.  Trade was brisk in the races where the place percentage was less than 100%.

As regards the 1/5th 1234 or 1/4 1234 as jimnast said we were consulted as a whole and the majority wanted 1/5th for 16-21 runner h'caps, mainly due to the fact that on-course punters seem to prefer the bigger win price and 1/5th odds on these type of races.  Personally, I would have preferred 1/4 1234 from a marketing perspective as the off course would then have been uncompetitive as a result - the on course book WILL lay a bet and you can ALWAYS beat the off courses show on the track.

worked newcastle yesterday business very good crowd of mostly geordies jocks and oirish so plenty large wagers results absolutely shocking (as per ) and we bet to correct each way terms every race   (92% on the big one )Shocked

WHAT A SHOCK,"THE MAJORITY WANTED 1/5 FOR 16-21 RUNNER HANDICAPS,MAINLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT ONCOURSE PUNTERS SEEM TO PREFER BIGGER THE WIN PRICE AND 1/5 ODDS ON THESE TYPE OF RACES" THATS BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF MOST RINGS ARE COMMISSION AGENTS WHO WOULDNT LAY AN EGG IF THEY WERE HENS(THE WORSE ABUSERS OF THE 1/5 1/6 1/7 BETTING FROM PROMINENT PICKS,WHAT AN UTTER SHAMBLES.THE SOONER ONCOURSE BOOKMAKERS REALIZE ITS THE PERCEPTION OF THE PUBLIC THAT THEY ARE BEING RIPPED OFF AND THEREFORE STOPPING PUNTERS COMING RACING,WHEN IN REALITY EVERY RACECOURSE I STAND MYSELF AND A VERY FEW OTHERS ARE STANDARD TERMS EVERY RACE,WILL LAY A BET,AND OFFER THE ONCOURSE PUNTER THE BEST VALUE THEY HAVE EVER HAD ON BRITISH RACECOURSES.ONCOURSE PUNTERS PREFER BIGGER THE WIN AT 1/4,AND AT THE TRACKS I ATTEND THEY GET IT,COME RACING!

SP at Hennessy prices was

Win 136.7%

Place at 1/4 odds 108.8%
Place at 1/5 odds 125.3%

Obviously , better prices were available at some point on all the runners.
By:
intheknow
When: 02 Dec 13 10:19
Those figures are a bit misleading as the SP will predominantly have been taken from those bookmakers betting at 1/4 - if there were enough of them.

Bookmakers betting to 1/5 odds are likely to have had slightly better win odds on many selections throughout and at the off too

Comparing the figures posted above is like comparing apples with pears

thanks jimnast .

why did they not survey punters and ask what would they prefer , 1/4 odds smaller win prices or 1/5 bigger win prices , in 18 runner races people want ew bets so the point or 2 they lose at the win end is made up in the place .

it is only too obvious that bookmakers would vote for 1/5 16 runners or more .

I know quite a few who voted for 1234 1/4 apparently not enough however,re why did they not ask the punters I don't know the reason for that.may I again point out that the original blame lies with the gambling commission although as in every walk of life some choose to abuse the new guide lines.
