Three answers, two of which are wrong.

10 horses, one of which is your winner, so not included in the perms. Leaving 9 possible horses to take second place, which leaves 8 possible horses to fill third place. 9 possibilities multiplied by 8 possibilities equals 72.

11 horses, one of which is your winner, so not included in the perms. Leaving 10 possible horses to take second place, which leaves 9 possible horses to fill third place. 10 possibilities multiplied by 9 possibilities equals 90.

12 horses, one of which is your winner, so not included in the perms. Leaving 11 possible horses to take second place, which leaves 10 possible horses to fill third place. 11 possibilities multiplied by 10 possibilities equals 110.

its the number of selections x selections -1 x selections -2

ie

6 horses in ctc
6x5x4= 120

10 horses in ctc
10x9x8= 720
