Looked like a slow pace and HF rising ten doesn't need an extended sprint. Did ok there for a seasonal debut but I'll be surprised if he can win the CH again.

19 wins from 22 races , similar statistics to Istabraq . 17 Grade 1's some record. A true superstar ,but will be tested at Cheltenham by The Tother One to name but one imo.

How many of those Grade 1s were Grade 1 in anything other than name?
Hurricane Fly has been a great horse but there has not been a proper CH contender in Ireland since 2010 (when Hurricane Fly was injured).

Not a lot can be done to make racing consistently competitive at the top level. ( Think of Frankel -who people said spent much of his time just beating Excelebration ) For one thing true Gr.1 horses are by definition rare . Then many of the top horses are in the same yard so they get spread out and don't meet each other. In some cases trainers are loath to take on champions in case they get a harsh readjusted handicap mark. It kinda makes a case for more limited Gr.1 handicaps which Americans are much readier to accept.
