Excited doesn't half make you laugh. I've never been to Cheltenham before, can you at least get a good enough 3G signal to bet online?

betfair bet to an average of 1/6th the odds a place today..why is this allowed ?

adge,

good evening. Is what you're suggesting is that bookmakers can't make a profit (on course) of traditional ew terms !?

Or, are you suggesting that bookmakers on course reflect the Betfair place market !   ?....
By:
slickster
When: 16 Nov 13 18:33
The traditional terms are a quarter 123 or 1234 in hcaps depending on amount of runners. NOT A FIFTH!!!!!!!!

bookmakers....on or off course are parasites.

halcyon - bookmakers betting overbroke will in the long run make a loss.

adge , what race was that ?
By:

When: 16 Nov 13 18:55
all the first 4 handicaps rcing. the point is the course bookmakers are betting close to the betfair win market on the shorter ones and if they also bet to 1/4 odds the places become overbroke [ less than 100% ].
if anybody doesn't believe me check out tomorrows first 4 handicaps.
yes course books can bet to 1/4 but would then have to offer lower win prices [ like the betting office shows ]
those with their wifi and fancy phones will confirm that from this afternoon

A blindfolded chimp should be able to understand why Bookmakers will struggle to make the Place Market pay on average races.
Clearly, this fact has escaped the majority on the BF Forum as most things do.

i am guessing that you are talking bout the place price on betfair in relation to the win price on betfair , and not the BF place price compared to th SP
By:

this type of thread can always get a good debating situation [ although it has been given an unfortunate title ]
to answer halcyon days point..yes , books can make a profit by offering 1/4 1234 but they have to offer smaller win prices to achieve it . experience has shown that the average punter wants a bigger win price , which is natural , anyone phoning betfair today wanting a win AND place bet will have realized how poor the win and place ratio are on here

correct rcing , the sp is a red herring

3 handicap races at cheltenham today

BFSP is far greater after commission that the SP

the place price compared to the SP price is far greater as well

Get your bets on before you go through the gates. Straight to the bar, relax, get best price guarantee etc and enjoy the day!

you seem happy to pay the inflated bar prices , roy.
isn't that double standards ?
By:
EVILROYSLADE

The prices are indeed inflated. Still, I would much rather put it behind the bar than in the robbers satchels. I always have a few gripes at the bar, but then again I don't drink much!

backing a winner on here will make up for the drink prices compared to backing a winner at the track

It would seem then if the ''place'' part of your ew wager is important, then as Roy says do business before you go racing...  preferably at BOG ! The downside one hears is visiting a number of LBOs...  but hey ho !

I well remember some years ago Stephen Little saying that he bet better ''win'' prices than Barry Dennis who allegedly bet traditional ew terms at the same odds... watched it on the M L   !
