Not disgraced in recent efforts on the polytrack at decent prices. Was short of room 2f out when finishing 5th, 4¾l behind Gung Ho Jack (6f) last month at Kempton. That race was more competitive than today's contest and the horse who finished 4th in that race has since gone on to win and finish second in two class 5 events on the all weather. Ridden by apprentice jockeys on his last seven outings, Adam Kirby is booked for the ride today. Trainer, David Evans, has had a 6/1 and 20/1 winner in the past 4 days.

14:50 Wolverhampton - Dark Lane (6/1)

Another horse ridden by apprentice jockeys on recent outings; another David Evans trained horse with Adam Kirby booked for the ride today. Has ran with credit on his last two outings when seen at Wolverhampton and Lingfield respectively. Finished 4 lengths behind Fat Gary over today's course and distance two outings ago, Fat Gary of whom has since gone on to win a class 4 race off a three pound higher mark; albeit on the turf. Bogsnog is also another horse to come out of the race who has also gone on to win (class 5 race on the polytrack off a 2lb higher mark). Having been running in class 5 races of late, the last time Dark Lane was seen in a class 6 handicap he was touched off by just a nose.

15:55 Wolverhampton - Athenian (7/1)

Hasn't been seen on polytrack since June 2012 when winning off a mark of 76 over 6 furlongs at Kempton (class 4). Was raised in the handicap after winning a class 3 event on her final outing of 2012, and has been tried in class 3 events in all four starts this season. Now dropped in grade, she has done enough in better contests to get the nod under Luke Morris today, and has a pleasing strike rate on the polytrack to boot. Has been dropped 1lb in the handicap since most recent effort at Goodwood.

16.55 Wolverhampton - Outlaw Torn (8/1)

Four course wins in his career, all of which have been in the past 13 months over 9 furlongs, most recently in March of this year. Today's jockey, Robbie Fitzpatrick, rode him in all four of those aforementioned victories, two of which came when running off the same handicap mark as today. Beaten 12½l on his first of three starts on the all weather last month when pulling hard but more creditable efforts on last two outings. Finished 1½l behind Landau last time out in a class 5 handicap last time out and can go well again here in what looks a weaker race. Does have widest draw to contend with, however.
