Last 10 serious bets on horses that I have had have all got beat. 7 of them hit 1.1 or less in running. Sad

Since October 12th I've hit my best ever winning run in terms of prices and related strike rate been phenomenal and highly unlikely i'll ever have such a run again although it hasn't finished yet!GrinBut even on winning runs bemoaning luck like lady Sylvia beaten at 1.01,the more winners you back the more close calls you will obviously have so it does even out unless it's pure guesswork.I would imagine if you're betting is semi serious and not being able to put in the hours the temptation to have extra bets after run of close calls at probably not value prices is the big temptation.

xmoneyx - I only start with a bank of £50 to £100 normally and only bet beyond my means when winning. Normal bets when winning would easily be 3 to 5 times my weekly income. I can get up to 1k in a very short time, last November I got up to 8k in only 2 weeks, and usually withdraw some to treat family, but usually I lose most back. If family knew how much I bet at times they would send for the men in white coats. I keep records and usually show an annual profit of about 5k+. If I weren`t a gambling addict, I reckon I could be a millionaire by now. Total amount bet yearly is approx 25 times my annual income Shocked All my bigger bets and successful ones are on Sports. I only bet horses for fun nowadays for £20 to £40. I don`t follow them as much now.

Handling losing runs are what separates winners from losers . It is by far the biggest psychological hurdle in making it pay .

Hence Bank of 50 - 100 X stake,  is essential to provide adequate ' cushion' to avoid ' panic'/ loss of confidence..

Probably 8 or so, though my 'unluckiest' run was over 2 days where I had the 6 biggest bets of that month all lose in photo finishes and all of them were ahead before/after the line but lost on the bob! Sometimes there's just nothing you can do.

I've had many runs in the 30s and at least one run into the 40s. I typically back it bigger prices though, very rarely below 3/1 and most bets at double digits. The hot runs are very hot and cold runs very cold, but I just plough on regardless. I've been keeping records for over 10 years and had over 4000 bets in that time

2017 has been by far my worst year in decades. May was very good, since then its been disastrous, with several long (15+) losers punctuated only by little clusters of short price winners which are just not doing anything for the recovery. But by far the worst feature is not getting what should be normal breaks where luck evens out. Second after second after second, several at double figures. If I shortlist two I'm on the wrong one and since the start of July, 22 horses I've backed have won next time out, some at huge prices. When I try to be ultra selective I pick the wrong races to bet and leave out winners that I hadbeen interested in. (Koeman unbacked at 20/1 on 27th September was hard to live with). I keep meticulous records, and I'm tired of writing "how can this keep happening when I'm doing so much right?" Bank is still doing its job, although it's taken a bashing, I can keep going for some time yet as I keep telling myself it just has to turn.

BB - that reflects my experience - I need to decide if this is statistically significant because as I said above, I keep hitting the crossbar. KoD makes the right point - one that I'm acutely aware of, but it's tough staying ice cool even though I know thats exactly what I have to do.

I thought is was odd he didn't comment when I brought back the thread about my much older half sister's very long marriage on their anniversary, as they are around the same age as the Captain.

Maximum losing run was this last August with 60 consecutive losers, but I'm having a good October so far and am up on the year by about £5000.

King of Dubai - it's possibly a bit early to say really, but in the 2.5 years that I've been running my system, the winter months haven't been profitable, so it'll be interesting to see what happens over the next few months or so. The best months so far for me have been April through to July, but the picture may change next year. Watch this space as they say!

King of Dubai - no that's ok, I understand what you're saying. The thing is I bet on my system every single betting day of the year (UK racing only), so over time I can get a clearer picture of any trends although I would say that even doing it for 2.5 years so far, I can't be certain that every winter is going to be a losing one for me, or for that matter, April to July will always be a profitable one. I would say, ask me again in another 3 years from now and maybe (or not as the case may be) I'll have a lot of historical data behind me to possibly see a trend, but at the moment I couldn't say for certain that there is a trend.

2.5 years is not long enough to be absolutely certain that any particular month is profitable or not.

steerforth, if you make money long-term you've just got to keep going, keep doing what you've always done it will change soon. If you flip a coin 1000 times you will get runs of 8,9,10 in a row where you get the same outcome. Think of that like close finishes where it's 50:50, when your luck is out you will have long runs where they all lose, buts it's the law of probability

But seriously, if everyone here is on such long losing runs, lay your selections, then you will win!
Am I missing something here?

Milo A certain gentleman that frequented the forum many years ago had a run of 234 (either that or 243) , he lost many 10,000s during this run but he knew that what he was doing was right .............. his wife and family were nagging at him no end saying he was a loser and had no chance with gambling , they stated to him that what he was doing was the exact opposite from what he required and kept on and on during this losing run, he finally broke after many months of losses so he did what his family wanted and gave in needless to say I don't need to tell you the ending but 19 out of 21 losses again by them all winning.
He went back to doing what he did originally and never looked back,

That's impossible if you don't mind me saying so.

One has to presume he placed money on them because he fancied their chances, and let's face it you don't bet 233/1 shots every time because you fancy their chances.
