busy winning four figures at Doncaster. actually every director except one were also there , democrat.
consequently , heard nothing from Aintree , unfortunately. surely , in running betting has very little relevance to Aintree. marketing fees , split lists , advance purchase badge discounts etc , etc has |

Nothing worries you adge - not even the sorry plight of your beloved Rovers ! Your post about the outlawing of linking pitches run by different operators has had some effect. I was talking to a West country bookmaker who has been known to operate this modus operandi and he and the other party are now considering swapping pitches with one another to overcome the problem ! I trust your comments re this 'arrangement' are borne out adge.

two points.
1.who decides aintree splits to grand national and off.ive a pitch there nobody asked me. 2.everybody keeps telling me there a new spirit of talking between the books and the courses.turn up at donny the bar on the cobbles is a private party for mr dobsons friends(sponsored a race in his memory).dont have a problem with this ,its none of my business but it should have been on the a.g.t page.as it happens didnt really affect me in pick 2 but it cant have been any good further down. untill we get serious they will just keep taking taking taking. |

Aintree say that the decision to split the lists came at the request of the bookmaker associations including the FRB. As far as I know, no individual bookmaker was asked on this one but stand to be corrected if that is not right.
I don't see anything wrong in this as if we appoint directors by vote then they have to make some decisions without having to ask all & sundry for their individual views. If that was the case then nothing would ever get done. Aintree clamping down on anyone caught using 'electronic devices' for in-running betting AWAY from their pitch. They will operate a zero-tolerance on this and if caught doing it, you may well be removed from the course and possibly without a warning. If it's one of your staff then you would also be culpable and also shown the exit door. This is a JCR policy across all their courses and they mean business as I know of someone that got a pull at Newmarket recently. |
By:
Please correct me if I'm wrong intheknow but is not most 'in running' business conducted by third parties who are totally independent of pitch holders ? Is the 'removal process' being applied to these individuals also ?
By:
from what I understand , REGIT , the splitting of the lists was first mooted at a meeting between the racecourse and robin grossmith [ FRB] in January 2012. the thought clearly being to bring Aintree into line with Cheltenham , Ascot and Goodwood.
as you no doubt know I sold my pitch at Aintree in april 2013. I was unaware then of this happening [ it made no difference anyway ] but have been aware of it from soon after that. I believe the racecourse will soon realize how poor the off meetings are for tatts books [ if they didn't already ] as they start to appear on the auction lists |
By:
INTHEKNOW .......I DOUBT IT
By:
the NBPA are happy to support the plan to split.
has anyone a real reason against [ other than the double marketing fee to the racecourse if sold separately ] |
By:
the situation regarding the canal turn enclosure has caused far far more headaches all round to find an acceptable outcome to all. any outcome would never suit everybody
By:
Given the fact that the off meeting pitches have relatively little value there appears to be no reason adge why such a split should not be made. The payment of the extra marketing fee is a consideration but is this only applicable to new incumbents ? On this occasion, unlike some others, the previous comment regarding 'no need for consultation' seems to be an acceptable approach.

if after its split i sell my aintree as 2 seperate pitches will it cost me the same (everything is a %)or will there be 2 fees to pay.i genuinely dont know the answer.cant see the point of it apart from getting the racecourses a little bit of commision and does anyone think it devalues the pitches.most people know theres only 2 1/2 days but now it will be in black and white.intheknow agree about directors etc. but IF the knew about it they could have brought it up at nbpa meeting.
By:
adge whats this about linking pitches of different operators please.
By:
Yes it could have been mentioned at the meeting (although I couldn't attend)
If I understand correctly, then if you keep both your existing pitches then you only pay one marketing fee. Only if a pitch is sold does a second marketing fee come into place. |
By:
The linking of different operators is under scrutiny by JCR and they are in discussions with the GC about this.
Whether that means anything will be done is anybody's guess |
By:
Regit, there has been a move to outlaw it by thr frb and the racecourses, however those who it affects most have been up in arms and taken legal advice,so it most probably wont happen,it was supposed to be due to "price fixing" that they could get it stopped however now its been pointed out that the linked pitches can have different prices it looks like being a non starter.

in short JCR have sought legal opinion as to whether two or more different firms linking and thus displaying exactly the same price is legal.
the legal opinion has come back that this would be a form of price fixing and could at the same time make the sp return from the ring unsafe. the NBPA directors did know that the Aintree lists could be split at the time of the AGM but at that time it was still just being considered so was little more than rumour |
