Top chaser Grey Abbey dies at the age of 19

GREY ABBEY, who won the 2004 Scottish National, 2005 Betfair Bowl, Pillar Chase and Charlie Hall Chase, died on Saturday at the age of 19.

Trained by Howard Johnson, Grey Abbey won 15 races and more than £360,000 in prize-money during an illustrious career. He also finished finished fifth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup won by Kicking King.

"Grey Abbey was probably the best chaser I have ridden and one of the toughest horses anybody could come across." Jockey Graham Lee.
