Report jollie September 29, 2013 4:26 PM BST
about 1 in 10 ?
Report gilzean September 29, 2013 4:27 PM BST
what do you think 30% of winners have drifted?
Report jollie September 29, 2013 4:28 PM BST
1 in 10 is 10% innit?? ConfusedConfusedConfused
Report gilzean September 29, 2013 4:28 PM BST
perhaps too high as bookies also shortening up...say 20%
Report gilzean September 29, 2013 4:29 PM BST
1:10 seems a very low ratio
Report moondan September 29, 2013 8:54 PM BST
Of course drifters win even in this day and age when bookmakers shorten up runners to suck punters in.
Bookmakers are never gentlemen and in the punting scene you had better understand that good.

A well known chancer on ruk would have you believe the market has all the answers its just another ridiculous conclusion he has come to.

Drifters(the best kind of value)Cool
Report hulk23 September 29, 2013 9:24 PM BST
as a rule - the ones that drift because it has been agreed they're not going to win

generally never win.
Report hulk23 September 29, 2013 9:25 PM BST
i should add - the ones that drift on the place market because it has been agreed they're not going to place

generally never place.
Report geos1 September 29, 2013 9:30 PM BST
I find the ones that drift several points from about 5 mins to the start right up to off time are the best ones to back
Report artie September 30, 2013 12:48 AM BST
Without a clear definition of what you all mean by "drifters",and a sample size of a few thousand, this discussion is pointless. All we have here are different peoples' impressions of what seems to happen.
Report chavman September 30, 2013 12:59 AM BST
Ben.E.King and the drifters were quite successful if this helps
Report artie September 30, 2013 1:16 AM BST
I don't think he would have been too successful running around Aintree with a jockey on his back.Hope this helps !

Dhaular Dhar, couple of weeks ago. 11-1 in morning. Opened 12-1 on course, drifted to 25-1, won comfortably. I was gonna check if he went out in price, forgot, still hurts.
Recently there seems to be plenty of value 5 mins. before race.
Report Pinza September 30, 2013 10:37 AM BST
I backed Dangerous Age 8.00 Wolver Saturday night.
As I recall it was 8's when backed late morning(7/1 or 15/2) and it won at 12/1.
The paper forecast was 9/2 (Mirror).
It was CD winner and the more facied horses Agerzam and Trinitylitedotcom (also 3yo's) had never won over race distance of 5f.

Generally though I agree drifters don't usually win but more fancied ones are often placed.
Report Diamond_Joe_Quimby September 30, 2013 10:47 AM BST
remember reading a guy earlier this year did a study of it and he made more money backing drifters than steamers.
