He was at a race meeting when he seen Rod Stewart and went over to interview him, Rod told him to "F*@* OFF".......and Tommo never bought another Rod Stewart record after that !  The story is in the book, and re the topic question "Is this book a suitable Christmas present ?"  Do you need to ask that question !  Pick it up in the pound shop next year.

Daft **** thought my mate Danny was the owner of Ayr Gold Cup winner Regal Parade a few years back, interviewing him live on air straight after the race so Danny went along with it. Class

Also, has there ever been other people in this world who have bravely managed to win a battle against cancer and continued with a full and busy life ?.........or has only one person on this planet managed this feat?

How good a book is can be judged by it`s price on Amazon 4 weeks after publication and Tommo`s will be going for 1p, imo.

When you compare his book title to the brave fight and dignity sir henry carried around for years you see how small minded and cheap he actually is

sickening title and a kick in the teeth to the many brave folk who lose to this disease all the time , but hey if you can get a couple of quid out of it

In extremely poor taste by Thompson for trying to make  money out of being ill  (unless of course he is donating some of the proceeds to cancer research, Macmillan, etc....)

The man redefines the word 'shameless'. The book title says it all about how crass he is. A damning indictment on racing that he continues to carve a successful career out of it.

Fwiw i spoke to TALKSPORT when he had his slot on there and told them in no uncertain terms they could be hit with lawsuits over the man...He was "let go" straight after..genuinely..

As a title to the book I think "Too Greedy To Die" might have been more appropriate

I'm not sure why the Betfair police took the other thread down as the thing about him falling foul of the ASA is on record and in the public domain and if he wanted to sue over a stain on his character regarding the spat with Hugo Palmer then it would all come out in court anyway.

He was diagnosed with a bowel tumour and bowel cancer can be a killer if left unidentified for too long, so I supposed it all depends on how you look at it as to whether he was considered to be dying or not but he had surgery for it anyway. Caught early enough it has a high survival rate of 5 years or more but a very low one for that same time period if a late diagnosis.

I have this theory that the reason why so many famous people either come through illness or have a greater life expectancy that the average person once they are diagnosed is that I'm sure many have private healthcare either personal or tied on with the job, that requires them to have a full health MOT every 6 to 12 months and any problems are found earlier than the average person who either can't or won't go to the doctor.

I was quite shocked

Many people will have had bowel cancer for a long while before it is diagnosed. Once it spreads elsewhere the chances of recovery are not so good. Early diagnosis and treatment are keys to survival.

I am a bowl cancer patient.
Have a brain scan on the 7th of Oct. due to intense pain....big worry for me, but I keep "busy" and won't be selling a book even though I work in the entertainment business with plenty of stories I could tell.

by the way,do you have chemotherapy treatment for this type of cancer.

knot......yes had chemo for year....pretty horrible due to constant sickness but it helped with no repeat tumour in the bowel do far.

does chemo fill bloodcells?

know from family experience the chemo is very tiring,thats why big fella's quick recovery surprised me.

xmoneyx.....kills cancer cells that may travel around the body...but can damage healthy ones as well which can cause some problems.

so they do a count monthly of bloodcells

Plenty of blood tests during treatment......to see what is going on with the cells.

Good luck Paul,in Thompson's case I can only presume he had keyhole surgery to recover has quickly as he did.

Tommo too busy to write his own book it seems too, no shock there I suppose, I understand Lee Mottershead was responsible for waving the wand and making it a 'fun' read, with plenty of staccato sentences no doubt to add some much needed effect to the wild excitement of opening bookies' shops the Tommo world over. Met Hugo Palmer at the Newmarket open day on Sunday, very impressive character and a genuinely busy guy himself. Thankfully, he wasn't too busy to ignore the blatant lies and did what any self-respecting person would do in the circumstances. I like Palmer as a trainer, but he's gone up another notch in my estimation as a human being since reading this thread.
