Typical of the utter sh!te the racing media & people 'in racing' trot out & expect us to swallow without question.....
Pathetic, Steadman was hyping this up after the race, spouting that Drowne was "back where he belongs" in the winners enclosure after a Group 1? Surely he would be 'back where he belongs' if he'd been at Wolverhampton?

Just for the record, "one of" doesn't actually mean "the" best.

Whatever the score anyway he's a multiple Gr1 winning jockey all the same, with a couple of Prix de L'Abbaye wins, a July Cup, a Cheveley Park Stakes, a Moyglare Stud Stakes and now a Nunthorpe win on his CV, as well as other higher level races like the Gr2s Prix du Gros-Chene at Chantilly, the Lowther Stakes at York, the Gr3s Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, the Fred Darling at Newbury, as well as highly competitive big handicap races that take some winning such as the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood and the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket.

He's also been a bit unlucky both directly with health issues that without those might have seen him have success on horses like Al Kazeem and Cityscape, both horses he has previously won on as well as Mick Channon having had a couple of 2YO fillies go into the winter as favs for the 1000gns but didn't make the line up through injury. Plus in a rare show of loyalty for racing, he stuck with Roger Charlton's longer priced Avonbridge to finish 2nd in another July Cup to Hughie Morrision's winner of the race Pastoral Pursuits (a horse Drown usually rode and won on 4 times including a couple of Group races) despite PP being half the price in the betting but mainly because he had had a longer association with Charlton.

Ima you have just spoiled a good critical review of a jockey by some of the forum experts by quoting some facts, how irresponsible can you beWink

LOL....I know telepathic and I'm a bugger for doing it but I just can't help myself. Silly

Maybe some on here think you have to be a flying dismounting loud mouth to win the top races eh? Happy

You do not need a flying dismount to impress the readers on this forum, but a loud mouth with no attachment to the brain goes a long way, and their are more qualifiers than for a 0 to 100 sprint handicap.Sad

What's happening to this place now, there has been far too much common sense and logical posting going on lately and not nearly enough negative knee-jerk reaction stuff.......I'm almost feeling nostalgic for how it used to be . Grin

Average jockeys don't tend to be multiple Gr1 winners......in fact average jockeys rarely tend to even ride in them to begin with.

can you please list all the major wins and unlucky losses of all jockeys then we can form a league table just to see how close to the top he should be.Silly

No, I was referring to the could have rode that one circumstance and injury, must be lots of that about.

I'm sure there is but even without that there are enough positives alongside Drowne's name with the calibre of some of the races he has won regardless, but he did actually miss out on the winning ride on Cityscape at the Dubai World Cup once his fainting/heart problem was discovered.

It's quite ironic too because the beneficiary of that was James Doyle, another jockey I remember on here being labelled as average and AW level at best, until he started getting on a few Gr1 level horses for Roger Charlton and funnily enough en started winning a few Gr1s.

Who would have thought it eh? Happy

Any decent jockey will win group one races if given the right horse, basically its just another horse race.

That sounds dangerously like you saying it's far more about the horses than the jockeys then silvergreaser.

Not even close ima, just pointing out 3 jockeys who virtually ride every race the exact same way without any variation in their riding.

And that's "not even close" regarding alluding to it's more about the horses than the jockeys.....Hmmmmm. Confused

They're all professionals you don't become a professional jockey if you can't ride in the first place, the ones that couldn't are shoveling horse dung now.
By:

So they are all professionals who are subject to criticism by those who could not sit on the back of a flatbed lorry and you must have a loss of memory problem.......dont criticise jockeys lol lol lol

My point was I've claimed all along that it's far more about the horses than the jockeys and if the horse is good enough then thenre are several jockeys who would win on it, just as when a jockey is beaten on a poor horse there are several jockeys that still wouldn't have been able to win on it either.

The more decent horse they ride the easier the job is, the more poor ones the harder it is, so if you are saying silvergreaser:

Any decent jockey will win group one races if given the right horse, basically its just another horse race.

that does look like the horse is more important than the jockey to me regarding whether they are successful or not.

Telepathic I don't think I've ever started a thread criticising a jockey?, I might have contributed to a few threads where a certain Murphy gave a few dodgy looking rides, which usually sets off an alarm on telepathics laptop everytime a thread is critical of his hero Timmy, just like ima and Kieren.

Or maybe contribute to the odd critical Spencer thread where he is sitting out the back showboating forgetting there might actually be a race unfolding up front.
