Betfair are refusing to void the bets |
By:
Missed this Magician - what happened?
By:
Australia (2.2 fav) missed the start by 5 lengths (last Sunday at the Curragh)
Betfair missed the suspend by 4 seconds pre-off market hovered upto 3.7 or higher BFSP 3.1 or higher ( I forget) Betfair told they missed it Betfair refuse to void the bets Regulator now dealing with it. for a decade I have never understood how betfair management side with the hoverers in this situation |
By:
Thanks - that's staggering. They really must lose that one surely.
By:
Bilbo - even in the face of the GGC investigating it not they still refuse to void...
you really could not make it why go to such lengths to protect the hooverers |
By:
Bilbo - even in the face of the GGC investigating it NOW, they (betfair) still refuse to void...
By:
Magician, which regulator is it that you are speaking to?
By:
horse got beat a neck ffs. If it had won would you still be wanting it voided ?
By:
the final result has no bearing on his initial argument
hth |
By:
So if the result doesn't go your way in a race where the suspend team miss the start by anything over a nanosecond, you can kick up a fuss and get the whole thing voided?
I laid Australia in-running and those who backed it got their bet on. Both parties got what they wanted. |
By:
Official off time All "not in running bets" placed after this time void, official finnish time all transactions placed after this void very simple really stop the thieving hooverers placing bets after the event.
By:
Mr Magoo the Gibraltar GC
By:
Delta - exactly correct
By:
Roger - it is not about the result, people that got hovered at 3.6 for a horse trading 2.2 300 miliseconds earlier, got robbed...
By:
mmmalushka
totally agree... I find it very hard to see the moral or business case Betfair management are thinking about to risk the wrath of the Gibraltar GC and tell them they refuse to void the bets. morally it cannot be defended business wise? do these people provide "liquidity" to betfairs USP of IR betting? and as such Betfair are scared of upsetting them when they hoover? I cant believe anyone in betfair could hold this view? but I don't see another view that makes betfair hold this current positon of defending these hooverers. |
By:
the rules are known and published, on what grounds are you going to win given that you've accepted the t&cs?
my question would be why have you not challenged it before? just playing devils advocate |
By:
Elise
I have challenged it many time before - some of them were lest categoric than this one... after a decade of being stolen from I have said enough is enough, and I will force betfair to protect the innocent bettors against the hoverers |
By:
ok, then the next thing they may ask, is have you ever profited before from it going in your favour
as i said, i'm just doing what i know they will do |

shurrup madge. I practically shattered me rodent by hitting the pink when it fell out.

It's depressing to see people on here defending Betfair when they've screwed up by suspending a market late or forgetting to turn something in-play. First and foremost, it's a moral issue. Betfair should be fair. But even if you don't care for that, here's a selfish viewpoint: These f**k-ups are costing customers money, and some of those customers are going to decide not to bet with Betfair any more as a result. Fewer customers means less chance of profit for everyone.
Magician, good luck with convincing the Gib authority to do anything. Hopefully at the very least it might encourage Betfair to act a bit more responsibly. Just a couple of days ago I ran into a similar Betfair screw-up: A tennis match had been turned in-play almost half an hour late. Pre-game bets were not cancelled and so had been hoovered up in-play. After phoning BF and pointing out their mistake, they refused to void the bets (but gave me a 'goodwill payment' to cover my small losses). Did they void other peoples' bets? No way. Did they care that some of their customers got ripped off? Nope, of course not. Their only justification was that "the rules state that this market is not actively managed. So don't place bets on it if you aren't watching it yourself". Great. Why don't they flat-out just state on the rules page that you will get ripped off if you bet in the market? (Also, the wimbledon mens final is also 'not actively managed' according to the rules. Betfair presumably can't even be bothered to accurately turn that in-play or suspend on time. So just what kind of event do they care about?) |
By:
Balla,
How dare Magician complain about him being a loser? |
By:
im not sure anyone is defending betfair, i'm certainly not
i think they have plenty of ways that they profit from us that the majority don't even know about i've spoken to magician on and off for years, my point is that we accept the t&cs, to a point we understand the risks and when it goes t1ts up we don't have much redress the vlv episode summed up plenty that is wrong with the way this place hides behind rules, everything looks rosy until the wheels come off and then we pretty much have nowhere to go ibas is useless, there is nothing in law right now that defines whether we can win a case when it goes against us, mainly because it's untested i reckon there must have been payoffs in recent times for certain failures but you can be sure if there have been then any payments have had a confidentiality clause thrown in to stop it being advertised apart from vlv, we've had tote winners not getting paid due to non bet placement, loss of peoples account details & possible hacking, crashes and lost trading, bets not cancelled when races never went in play, people were talking about taking action on some of these and that all went quiet everytime i'm interested to see where it goes, but i'm struggling to see past the rules, despite the fact it's an unfair playing field at times if you've agreed to play you don't have much going for you unless a court decides those rules are wrong, so forget the individual race error and focus on the rules being loaded in favour of the operator, offering little protection to the users |

Betfair use to let people get hovered in the photos after the result was given, until I deliberately got hovered and asked for my bets to be VOID, should they allow people on course that hear the result clean out those watching TV who have not heard it yet? This instance, but there have been many - will force Betfair to change their process again, and the sadest thing is the GGC will be the ones to force them to be fair, not their own management, and that should be ultra embarrassing to Breon and his team Elise T&Cs are one thing, but betfair suspend 99.9% of markets correctly so we have a realistic expectation they will do so, and as such they have a duty of care to us. this is long before they decide if it is good or bad for business they also legally commit to us in the rules of every race "This market will turn IN PLAY at the off with unmatched bets (with the exception of bets for which the "keep" option has been selected) cancelled once the Betfair SP reconciliation process has been completed." which is the contract I bet under with them, and they broke the contract. |

Managing markets In-Play
1.1General For everything other than horseracing and greyhound racing, if a market is not scheduled to be turned in-play but Betfair fails to suspend the market at the relevant time, then: if the event has a scheduled 'off' time, all bets matched after that scheduled off time will be void; and if the event does not have a scheduled 'off' time, Betfair will use its reasonable endeavours to ascertain the time of the actual 'off' and all bets after the time of the 'off' determined by Betfair will be void. For horseracing and greyhound racing, if a market is not scheduled to be turned in-play but Betfair fails to suspend the market at the relevant time, then all bets matched after the official 'off' time will be void. Betfair aims to use its reasonable endeavours to suspend in-play markets at the start of and at the end of the event. However, regardless of what it says in the Market Information, Betfair does not guarantee that such markets will be suspended at the relevant time. Betfair will not part-suspend outcomes/selections in an Exchange market that has been turned in-play (although it may do so in Sportsbook or Fixed Odds markets). Betfair customers are responsible for managing their in-play bets at all times. For the purposes of in-play betting, customers should be aware that transmissions described as "live" by some broadcasters may actually be delayed or pre-recorded. The extent of any delay may vary depending on the set-up through which they are receiving pictures or data. The availability of an in-play market on our Exchange product for a particular event does not necessarily mean that there will be an equivalent in-play market for the same event on our Sportsbook or Fixed Odds products. 1.2All markets other than soccer markets and Australian markets - not suspending at the time of the 'off' In relation to markets which are scheduled to be turned in-play, Betfair aims to use its reasonable endeavours to turn such markets in-play at the time of the 'off'. The time of the 'off' for such markets should be set out in the Market Information. However, regardless of what it says in the Market Information, Betfair does not guarantee that such markets will be suspended and turned in-play at the time of the 'off'. If a market is scheduled to be turned in-play but Betfair does not suspend the market at the time of the 'off' and the market is not turned in-play at any time during the event, all bets matched after the scheduled time of the 'off' will be void (in the case of horseracing and greyhound racing, bets will be void from the official rather than the scheduled 'off' time). If the event does not have a scheduled 'off' time, Betfair will use its reasonable endeavours to ascertain the time of the actual 'off' and all bets after the time of the 'off' determined by Betfair will be void. If a market is scheduled to be turned in-play but Betfair does not suspend the market at the time of the 'off' (so unmatched bets are not cancelled at that time), but the market is intentionally turned in-play at a later time during the event, all bets matched after the time of the 'off' will stand. that's what you have to beat bud, gl |
By:
What's odd is that most of those rules are sensible, and pledge that Betfair will go back and void bets where they fail to suspend. Except for that last paragraph:
If a market is scheduled to be turned in-play but Betfair does not suspend the market at the time of the 'off' (so unmatched bets are not cancelled at that time), but the market is intentionally turned in-play at a later time during the event, all bets matched after the time of the 'off' will stand. |
By:
It is also interesting Mr Magoo that in Aussie Wallet markets, any bets matched after the off when BF fails to turn in play at the correct time are voided - I assume because the Aussie regulator is far tougher than our powder puff mob and this is a licensing condition for BF to be able to operate in that region.
By:
Regulation is the only answer because as things stand at the moment Betfair are quite happy to take a 60/40 cut of the fast picture thievings of after the event transactions.
By:
Yes I do wonder how much betfair made form the pople that hovered me and if that is the driving decision from managment not to void the bets
Elise, I find that very interesting it seems to be a new T&C not a historical one, but I dont have to beat Betfairs T&Cs, betfair need to show they are operating within the law and guidance of the GGC fair and transparent gambling is both in the guidance and law... so they have not chance of winning |
By:
I still cant belive this....
If a market is scheduled to be turned in-play but Betfair does not suspend the market at the time of the 'off' (so unmatched bets are not cancelled at that time), but the market is intentionally turned in-play at a later time during the event, all bets matched after the time of the 'off' will stand. does anyone know when this clause was added, to protect the hoverers? |
By:
I don't know for sure but my guess would be that clause has been around at least 3 or 4 years.
By:
they're just worried about setting precedents, it is obviously a disgusting decision to let the bets all the way up to 3.7 stand.
if betfair can't run a business fairly, there really is no point at all. |
By:
if people hammered the sportsbook all the way up to 3.7, would betfair make the same decision?
1.01 no 1000 yes |
