I love racing and betting and would not stop no matter how much I had in the bank.

Report buzzer June 20, 2013 5:09 PM BST
If I dropped to that amount I doubt it very much
Report themightymac June 20, 2013 5:10 PM BST
There would be no point in it. If I had 100K I would never bet again. I`d be lying on a Sun drenched beach with a busty blonde. Those that would, wouldn`t have it long. They`d be skint within a year.

It's the winners that give you the buzz,,lucky to  have 100k ,but still bet every day
Report comingupthehill June 20, 2013 5:28 PM BST
if you have 100k+ you should not bet - you should own /or train.

why be greedy - try and contribute

Report themightymac June 20, 2013 5:51 PM BST
99% of people bet for money. Go into a betting shop any day of the week and you will see if people are having fun.
Report comingupthehill June 20, 2013 6:21 PM BST
disagree betting is for money - i do it sometimes just to pass time etc
Report fby June 20, 2013 6:28 PM BST
Last year i made 200k within 45 days. Lost most of it in a short time when i tried to win more and more.

The biggest mistake of my life so far.

and me - but not to that level. I start with 50-100 get up to 1k, easily, then 2k, as high as 8k and lose the lot back. Problem is, that there is no finishing line and the addictive nature of gambling. If one gets to 1k, then the target is 2k, then 3k, then 5k, then 10k and on and on. All gamblers are the same.

very true--gambled all my life---at the end of the day its like tokens to a compulsive personality like mtself--its like units if u hav a tenner its 10 tokens -if u hav a grand its 10x100---and when i had 100 grand or very near--it was the same----CRAZY but when u are doing it i didnt realise the value of each token---until it had gone Laugh

Report EVILROYSLADE June 20, 2013 8:08 PM BST
I would give you a tenner Mac! I only play on here with what I can afford to lose to be honest. Have backed horses all my life and although I really did prefer to try and beat the bookie, more often than not I tend to play that role instead. A sign of the times when you can profit from a horse losing without possessing a bookmaking licence.
Report comingupthehill June 20, 2013 8:09 PM BST
agree with the punters are chasers theme of this thread.

i bet to be able to continue to keep betting ,to be able to not work.obviously you will loose in the end - the money dosent need to matter - but thats the thing that does matter to  most who do bet.

training is the way to go - let the horses do the work, let the owners pay for it.
Report mac99 June 20, 2013 8:19 PM BST
I would take  99900 out of my bf  account  , put it in my bank where it can make interest  and  carry on as usual  with the   hundred  quid  trying to make four or five hundred   if lucky enough to do so   then remove  four of the five hundred    into my own Bank Account   and carry  on  that way
Report comingupthehill June 20, 2013 8:21 PM BST

Report themightymac June 20, 2013 8:25 PM BST
Thanks Roy but I was only joking Wink

You have the key to betting mate, only bet what you can afford to lose and one can enjoy betting whatever the outcome. Wishing you continued success! Grin

I was 600 up at Royal Ascot at one point (all bookies) and now only 100. If I had any sense, I should have quit and banked the cash. Crazy

Buy a horse at the horses in training sale in Newmarket , send it to A J McCabe , and have it right off 18 months later , retire to Tahiti.
Report barstool June 20, 2013 8:45 PM BST
If I won 100k I would still carry on having a bet. Separate the betting money out, say 10k. Invest the rest. Then bet selectively for enjoyment.
Report comingupthehill June 20, 2013 8:46 PM BST
we all think and say that but - in reality we dip into the 90k bank.

was hoping for  9/4   in a fair sized field , don't back odds on shots  on the grounds that  the aim of the Punter is to   know just a little more about the chances of a Horse  winning than do the  layers( the so called edge)  .Nathaniel  ,  now there was a Horse    i might have   bet at 10/11 in a two horse race  that did not include Camelot ...on soft  of course, but that goes without saying ExcitedLaugh
Report Purdey June 20, 2013 9:20 PM BST
If you bet to make money, you are more than likely in trouble from the off as it's difficult to stay focussed when your mortgage depends on it... I have a couple of quid in the bank and bet for fun. Any money I might make will pay for meals out, holidays etc, but if I lose, it's just lost money spent on fun.

I know people with millions in liquid cash who still bet... They bet a few hundred a punt and the bookies love them. They get comp'd at race meetings and allsorts. They get stuff that money can't buy. They also love the gamble...

If I made a million quid on a massive acca tomorrow (I often do them to make that sort of money - better value than the lotto!) I'd still work and would still bet...
Report s.kenbo June 20, 2013 9:27 PM BST

yes- I do
I earned my dosh working and retired early on a comfortable but not excessive pile.

£100k is not a lot in life/ lifestyle terms is it?

but I find every £5k 'earned' on here puts the icing on the cake of life- e.g. upgrade to club class long haul flights / every £500 sorts the odd few days away - Bath a couple of weeks back; Bruges trip this coming week; the odd case of decent claret / champagne.

Even 100 picked up on here sorts a free meal out

But I would never have wanted to HAVE to do this for a living- gawd!
Report millhouse June 20, 2013 10:11 PM BST
