I paid £170 to work as a bookie last night in the picnic car park where the stage was situated.I took two members of staff in the expectation of reasonable turnover and so with diesel and other costs my outlay is roughly £400.
On the first race i took ONE bet,the second race the same as was the third.so after three races have taken three bets with a combined stake of £9.50.
Business picked up and took 12 bets on the 4th (£29 staked),17 bets on the 5th(£66),41 bets on 6th (£161.50) and a massive 62 bets on the last for £164.

Total turnover for night of £430.

Asked David Maykels (racecourse manager ) for a refund or credit after 2nd race and got refused-to be fair their loss must have been horrific.Weather was obviously a factor but have to say massively disappointed and feel no enthusiasm for any future fixture at Leicester.Hope Ascot might be a tad better.

Leicester Racecourse
Leicester Racecourse are expecting crowds of 6,000-8,000 for the three music days on 15th June, 6th July and 11th August.  They would like to offer bookmakers the chance to bet in other areas.  On all three days they would like 6 in the picnic car park and 2 near the paddock.  On 6th July they would also like 2 to bet in the middle, where there will be a marquee.  No extra will be charged for the new areas and there will be no replenishment.

Due to the music stage location in the picnic car park, no cars will be allowed in this area, therefore, bookmakers will need to park in a different location (near the golf course.  Look in the document downloads section where a map is available).  No cars will be allowed to drop off or pick up equipment from the betting ring.

For further information or clarification please contact Neil Pateman on

My heart does not bleed for bookmakers.

I attend race meetings on weekends, am not a big gambler but when oncourse bookies offer 1/5 or 1/6 a place in a 20 runner handicap then the smartphone comes out.

Many times i have never used an on course betfair commission agent when attending a race meeting but choose to place the bet direct myself and eliminate the middle man.

Crikey Kevin, that must be some sort of record.

Good luck on that one Ivor - but you'll be costing yourself money
The on track boys have much bigger figures on the board even with slightly wonky place terms

I assume their 6-8000 was based on the FREE music day they had there last year.  I think the fact that it was FREE as opposed to the £25 last night might have something to do with it.

York is a world class racecourse and they are hosting the mega Kaiser Chiefs in July.  Cost £20 advance, £22 on night including a £40,000 listed race.

Leicester put on some old has beens (Rick Astley and Bananarama) in a poor racecourse venue with a low quality card for £25 and wonder why no-one turned up.

Wake up racecourses.  Do the music thing properly or make it cheap.  People wont pay £25 for rubbish.

the final nail in leicesters coffin they made bookies park in the golf course but opened a bookies gate.after racing this entrance was blocked by the porto loo wagonGrin

I also think it puts people off going when they say to come early as its going to be rammed etc.

Anyone know the advance ticket sales for Haydock on Saturday?

It's Rick Astley and co again.....£30 for adults and £15 for children.

Are they expecting a "huge" crowd like the one they got at Leicester?

the artful dodger - plenty of tickets sold for Haydock on Saturday so a big crowd expected.

Despite the awful weather there was a big crowd at Aintree on Friday night.
Report whiskyalpha June 16, 2013 1:15 PM BST
Rick Astley may go down a little better at Haydock as he's a local lad.

That said I won't be missing the last day at Ascot to stand at Haydock. Badge £30x6 + agt fee + staff entry and wages.

A Baldfred mobile betting office in the picnic area was a f@kin liberty.
