No, market never went in play?
Report Wesdag June 11, 2013 4:14 PM BST
I thought that it went in play after a delay of about 5 seconds.

Easy mistake to make with all the racing on today.
Report john92 June 11, 2013 4:15 PM BST
Nope, late suspend at the off then it wasn't in play. No delay in bet placement.
Report Keefter June 11, 2013 4:15 PM BST
yeah it did go in play after about 5 seconds of the race. but if you look at the market now it says going in play.
Report gerard June 11, 2013 4:16 PM BST
Was late being suspended and not sure the in play sign was ever visible - they USED to void IR bets in those circs, but more recently have made it up as they went along.
Report pugs June 11, 2013 4:17 PM BST
It was suspended a few seconds late but then re-opened as an idle market, and not an in-play

If you mean 4:05 Salisbury - then it did.

However - may be some glitch - LATE trigger - as Market, unusually, NOT yet CLOSED.

Prices moved accordingly.

paid out on my in play bet
Report john92 June 11, 2013 4:22 PM BST
The market re-opened after the off, you could bet on the race during it but it was not 'in play'. There was no bet placement delay. The last 2 or 3 times this has happened they have just paid out as normal.
Report Wesdag June 11, 2013 4:35 PM BST
Why not just leave it like that and not have the bet placement delay?  Any reason why not?
Report gerard June 11, 2013 4:48 PM BST
Because due to the delay in transmission it would not be fair - on this occasion however it was completely fair because otherwise BF would have to void all bets and lose commission.Mischief

The delay allows Betfair's bots to fleece us all, imo.

It has always been there though even before betfairs skimmer came in. Why is it there ?
Report dustybin June 11, 2013 5:14 PM BST
its the bots 'thinking time' Silly
Report Jack Bauer '24' June 11, 2013 5:15 PM BST
It provides an advantage to the market makers as they can cancel bets without any delay and provides a greater incentive to seed the markets.
Report pugs June 11, 2013 5:27 PM BST
The problem here is, people use triggered betting that is designed for idle markets and not in-running, and they had their bets fire into an in-running market.

Betfair clearly state "the market will be turned in-play" and it just wasn't.
