What screens rcing? I'll bet there is not a screen at the track. All the were short of doing was jumping the poor beast.

No point in expecting an informed comment from the Yank on ATR who barely even knows what has happened
|
|
By:
thanks for your feedback monte cristo :)
not the first time i've seen that sight on an irish racecourse. and the amount of shattered horses you see that fall at the end of races on their desperate heavy going during the winter is shocking |
|
By:
I'm not going to defend that Jonty because that was a shambles. No doubt.
Just annoyed with your rather sweeping generalisation in your OP. |
|
By:
ok apologies if i got this wrong , but do they use screens in ireland ?
|
|
By:
Had time to stop the race ,piss poor.............

I'm not saying I understand what it costs at any level to run a horse, but it does strike me that on days that UK meetings have one or two races that can scrape the dead-eight, Irish meetings have bum races with 15- 30 odd runners through the card.
What happens to these horses ? The vast majority must turn out to be no good. All this in a country which is effectively skint. |
|
By:
I have just seen the replay of this race and I have to say it was a disgrace and Tipperary racecourse should be utterly ashamed of there selves. they had plenty of time to stop the race and their actions border on barbaric imo. RIP to the poor horse

By:
Creature what do you mean by bum races.
|
|
By:
truly sickening sight.
|
|
By:
Arklearkle
Races that have 20 odd runners and crap prize money. |
|
By:
Ever see a 30+ runner maiden in the UK ?
|
|
By:
Creature
For your information Prize money in Ireland is vastly superior to that in the UK with the lowest winners purse today ( a maiden hurdle) the equivalent of £4,200. Only 8 out of the 36 races in the UK TODAY WERE WORTH MORE THAN THE LEAST VALUABLE IRISH RACE. . Only one NH race a handicap chase in Worcester was more valuable . Unfortunately for your argument the terrible incident which happened today occurred in the most valuable race held in either IRELAND or the UK that day with a value equivalent to £ 8,134 How can you say that Irish prize money is "crap" when 15 of the 36 UK races today raced for prize money less than £2,000 And by the way the next time you see a 30+ maiden in Ireland I will personally fly you over. |
|
By:
In Ireland in 2012 a total of 28,882 runners ran in 2516 (average 11 runners) for a total prizemoney of the equivalent of £37,500,000
The previous year in the UK a total of 94,376 runners ran 10,147 races for prize money of £93,892,923 Facts |

By:
Creature you need to get out a bit more and take your blinkers off. Your knowledge of the facts beggars belief.

Matt Chapman tweeted about the Tipperary incident last night yet subsequently deleted it.Why are people trying to pretend it never happened? |
|
By:
Had a day off yesterday so just watched this.
It looks absolutely disgraceful but we dont know the facts however the guy running on the track with the flag was lucky. It seems obvious to say the race should have been stopped. It is possible that they didnt have enough time to get someone on the bend which would have been necessary to stop the race. I think if that was the case they should have raced round the horse and taken that hurdle. It's easy to be critical but we don't know the facts, are the hurdle crews in contact with officials, did they have time after the horse went down etc. |

By:
Well said Biscar.
The poor horse collapsed with a heart attack but did not die immediately. The flag man was brave and someone you would like on your side |
