Is Racing Dying A slow Death ...

racing is just a licence to print money for certain people and it will only get worse as criminal gangs see how easy it is to fix ,its really just another form of the lottery for your average punter who dont have inside info

i like reading form for hours but really your still just guessing in the end coz its too easy to fix and the prize money is so chit they need to fix a bit to make ends meet,rich owners dont **** about with 50 rated horses and if u not rich u carnt just afford to hemerage money on horses running for peanuts so the only way is to cheat

if it wasnt so easy to fix and make coin out of the amount of chit horses in training and amount of races would be so much less thered be a meeting a week

its really just a joke apart from the good races

the whole financial world runs on fraud and scamming though so its not really a surprise or going to change so if u trying to win at horses u just have to find a way to fit in to  the corrupt system if u not part of it

I agree with what you say. Hardly bet on nags now, just can`t keep up with all that form, and like you say, you can study all day and end up betting a non trier.

I think it probably is dying a death,or at least my enthusiasm for it is.More interest in reading the post about racehorses of '85 than about saturdays derby.Probably years of reality i.e. losing dampen the optimism and expectation.

I feel that way too mate. As I get older, I get more nostalgic.

20-30 years ago,handicappers and better horses could win 3/4/5 in a row,not now,
handicapper lumps the weight on to get them beat.
There are too many moderate horses and trainers in the game,consistantly cr@p,
if you dont Lay horses you wont survive on here.

Thing is, the new generations now are not interested in horse racing. They have no understanding of the sport and just want to bet on football or play the fobt's. I was regular at Newmarket when I lived near Cambridge for years and hardly missed a meeting at both courses. The July Course on a Friday night was like an asylum, everyone mangled and just there for the beer and the gig afterwards and that stopped me going.

Ask a younger racegoer now which is the better price, 9/4 or 85/40 and they wouldn't have a clue.

The old school like me and others on here who actually understand the industry are a dying breed.

as a young person (25) I have been racing the last 4 years or so my mates love it and all do the festival with me...

try get them to lingfield on a saturday with aw dross for 18 quid a pop and no chance, we can go watch palace play in south london or hit the 20/20 cricket.

Price to get in is huge, national hunt is brilliant for its stories and faces that come back year in year out...

Be like the Cheltenham gold cup the fav being a King george winner up against a few winners of some dodgy handicaps.

This years Derby is garbage.again.O Brien has a team of donkeys and DA is just the best of a bad lot.expecting Chopin or Fabres to win cos they ain't over for a day out.

Last years Derby was absolutely abysmal.Camelots been found out,Bonfires a dog,Astrology is rubbish as is Main Sequence

it won a poor derby.

It's a bit previous to judge this seasons Derby ... from what I can see it has winners of all the top 3yo races so far contesting it ... Derrinstown and Ballysax, Irish 2,000 & Nmkt 2,000 guineas, Chester Vase, Dee stakes, Dante, Epsom Derby Trial and the Prix Greffulhe .... the same as any previous derby, knock it at the end of the season if it doesn't have Eclipse, King George, St Leger, Arc winners in it etc... last years Derby was poor with only 3 wins from 24 runs after it but give this seasons classic crop a chance before knocking them

agree entirely for day to day racing it is why I only like to back late market movers

it'll always be a lottery for your average punter who's too lazy to do the research, there will always be angles for those willing to put the effort in

horse racing dying a death ...what nonsense...if they'd had loads of AW meetings 30 yrs ago, do you think they'd have been any more popular then? they dont exist for most people...the good horses and C4 racing is what it's about for most, aswell as going racing (crowds up despite recession...except when it pi$$e$ down all the time)

people that moan about the cheating are people who basically dont study form properly, dont understand results and put it down to 'the game being bent' rather than themselves...sure the AW midwinter is shady but there aint that much wrong with most turf racing...you have to be rich to own horses and rich people dont like people messing around with their horses to win a few bob

people who do their own speed ratings , do they find anymore winners? then someone that can read the formbook

people who do speed ratings still read the form book, they just use it in the context of their own ratings ... I think some people envisage speed ratings compilers as pople who blindly back top-rated in every race ... not so!

If the game is so bent and profits can not be attained by form study - then why do tipsters like Pricewise and Hugh Taylor show decent profits year after year, albeit to advised prices.

Also, may I add, a lot of Taylor's tips in the winter are on the all weather - if it was that bent he would just stick to the jumps wouldn't he.

why have your own ratings, racing post do that stuff and they are experts, remember the good horses by all means.

unique (personal) ratings have more upside than ratings that are available to everyone

why play football, other people play football for you and you can just watch, why run a marathon ... other people run marathons for you so you don't have to ..... sound silly?????

There is an ageing population. Plenty of middle and older aged racegoers last time I went midweek.It is a lot more peaceful than going to the football and putting up with the idiots. Just don't back favs in handicaps or blindly follow jockey bookings.

This years Derby might surprise a few, it could be a fav win but there are a lot of imponderables.Magician turned that mile race into a procession, ROTW looked very good at Chester, Ocovango is by a top German sire and many more if's including will DA like 1m 4f around a camber? Fav is a clear lay as the field stands, it has too much against it to be taking a short price.

Wise up, just one instance from yesterday in a maiden, well fancied and high class horse simply because it was drawn on the wrong side was not put in the race at any stage.

It's a strange one this , prize money is so low it encourages cheating , but then you see 30,000 crowds at Chester and York , Newmarket friday evenings are packed out , I realize the majority of these people are not "racing people" , but they still pay to get in and eat and drink , the racecourses must be rolling in money , where does it all go ?

Too much racing, too many poor horses and jockeys(who think they're owed a living), too much cheating, awful pundits and presenters on the racing channels, too much circling the wagons when a cheat is found guilty, too many racecourses using concerts to get in a crowd and then telling us their 'racing' crowd is up. Jump racing is very strong atm but the flat is dying.

So many harbingers of doom.
Try thinking positive and you'll smile a lot more, and probably live a lot longer.

I think if we had more jumps meetings/all weather racing off season people would feel a lot better about racing. Failing that a lot more class 6 handicaps along with hunter chases in summer and cards full of amateur races would get the fires burning again.

As we age then the past looks better. The too much racing arguement I think is because we see it every day with ATR/RUK unlike 25 years ago. I remember getting the Racing Channel and thinking it was brilliant to see every race at home but now it all just blends in, the same has happened with all sports on tv.

Captain, you think having an easy in a maiden is a modern phenomenon?! wise up, buddy...of course every horse isnt off for its life in every race, but that's always been the case and a proper punter works around that no prob

racing has just become boring for me, used to love the sport. Now if I didn't bet on it I wouldn't bother.
