I reckon the majority of jockeys are as guilty as Ahern, Ive seen most of them give some awful rides through the years when you just knew they hadn't given the horse a winning chance. Not much the jockey can do if the trainer/owner tell them to be easy on the horse and save it for another day. You just know half these jockeys are told not to win on certain horses, so obvious its not even worthy of discussion.

Report clacton May 22, 2013 3:29 PM BST
basilbrush has said it all. I doubt if there's a jockey in the country who has not given a horse an 'easy' ride. Half the runners every day are just there to get their handicap marks down. If a jockey didn't do as told he would soon find his rides drying up. No good trying to solve it.Just go with it and watch what trainers do. Plenty of winners to find when a horse gets down to a winnable mark. Its always been like it and will never change.
Report stridingedge May 22, 2013 3:37 PM BST
yeah to me the main thing is whether they are profiting from it, if they are should be chucked out the sport for good!
Report Ramruma May 22, 2013 3:46 PM BST
There is imo a difference between not beating up horses who cannot win anyway, and deliberately pulling horses who could win in order to make money (presumably by laying it).
Report keynes May 22, 2013 4:25 PM BST
ahern is probably one of the least guilty jockeys. if you are any way sophisticated or doing it regularly, you surely wouldnt have been so blatant:

"JUDGETHEMOMENT (USA) dwelt fractionally when the stalls opened, but within 100 yards had reached the front and was running against the inside rail, having been actively pushed into that position by Ahern."

to have "dwelt fractionally when the stalls opened" would have been more than sufficient to get at 12/1 shot beaten

There's a particular stable which gets a lot of comment on here who were using that tactic regularly during the winter.

Another victim of reality is Eddie, when Coolmore and godolphin have pacemakers which will be run into the ground, the jockeys reveal as much on tv,what is the difference? I feel sympathy for Eddie and feel he should appeal is riding offence(what were his orders that day?) and with exchanges possibly revealing accounts there is a lesson for us all to remember!

Following comments taken from Racing Post website regarding the new surface at Lingfield today

The burning question today is 'how will the new surface ride'.
It was well received at the trials last week, but it looks and feels different - much lighter in colour and fluffier in texture - and clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie Ross expects it to ride slower to begin with.
The time for the opening race on the new surface was 1m 12.81s, which is 2.51s slower than standard.
There's a fresh wind behind them up the straight.
Luke Morris: "It rode a bit slow and where I was, sat out the back, there was quite a bit of kickback. It will be fine though."
William Buick: "It's typical of new all-weather surfaces, as it's very loose and there's a lot of kickback. It will take a bit of bedding in but it will be fine in time."
But one jockey thinks otherwise
Eddie Ahern: "I liked it. There was less kickback and a nice cushion. It rode like nice fast ground. Kempton was a little bit deeper when they resurfaced it."
Still trying to put punters away Eddie you fcukin clown

THe worst part of all this is that I ,and many others , are unsurprised and wonder what the BHA investigators have been doing for so long. The usual derision from within the racing community should be put aside when the weight of criticism is coming down so heavily in one direction and a closer look should be taken when teh forums are accusing people. It is obviously not the case all the time but heavy criticism warrants a closer look.

What a joke.  ten uckin years....youd get less for murder....a lot feckin less.  I think this cheating is a scandal. Never really liked Aherne for no great reason but punish the main perpetrators and sort the trainers out first and foremost.  What about all the gangster trainers.  they are the real problem.  Everyone knows who they are.  Handicappers a ucking joke.  If cheating trainers continue to pull their horses give them good weight until it becomes unsustainable for them to be training horses. Just dont understand it
Report pilgrim pete May 23, 2013 2:10 PM BST
