mine was on here summer 2003. I had been backing odds on shots to be placed and i backed a horse in an evening race called chatifa (I won't forget the name) to be placed. it went off at around 1-14 to win the race and i backed it at 1.03/1.04 to be placed, i put £3,800 on it which was everything in my account. i couldn't believe my eyes when it was unplaced, i was left numb. the feeling of losing that sort of money and knowing you can't get it back was a sickener.
It bolted up next time out under dickie hills which shows just how well kevin Darley did getting it beat out of sight at 1/12...had one or two sore defeats myself but you have to grind on...

thankfully I have calmed down, mainly due to the other half threatening my tackle with the chop!!

its always the same for me too. although my big losses are a hundred or 2. cant imagine what its like for your losses. also whenever i have a big loss it takes me a few days to want to have another bet.how long did it take you to get over the loss.

I remember being at a charity function last year and talking to a guy who was in the exchange shop on the day, he said he couldn't believe just how well you took it.

couple of seasons ago, layed Real Madrid, who where losing 2-0 80(?) mins gone, and not looking like they were going to get a goal at all. My liability £440, my entire bank that night, to win around a tenner.
They won 4-2

Well I doubt the punter who lost £237,000 in one bet recently is the poor sod who holds the unenviable title of biggest Betfair loss ever. But I wouldn't mind a small punt his £237k loss is the biggest accidental **** up. You see, our unfortunate friend layed at 1000, perhaps instead of backing it. And in the flash of an eye wiped nearly quarter of a million quid from his account.
Our man met his Waterloo in the 7.30 at Wolverhampton on November 18. By all accounts he either intended to place a bet at 1000 (999/1) on the pre race favourite Peregrine Falcon. Or more likely was lining up a lay of 1000 and submitted it too early. Whatever, he definitely did his bollocks to the tune of £237k and left 3 other bemused Betfair punters staring at their onscreen balances wondering what the hell was going on. One of them made a staggering £214,000 from the mistake.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin said: "It looks as if the layer simply made a mistake, as all prices matched have to be confirmed before they are traded.
"The only alternative I could imagine is that the layer was using an automatic trading system, and that there was some kind of problem with it.
"Nothing untoward is considered to have taken place, other than a genuine error on someone's part."
Well I guess anyone who can accidentally lose nearly a quarter of a million pounds that is laying around in their Betfair account can afford to. But it's got to hurt. And then some. Going to take a while to claw that lot back!
Anyway, of course attention on the Betfair horse racing forum turned swiftly to the identity of the big loser. Warwick Hunt, the big banked in running 1.01 er was an early favourite having fessed up to big losses in the past. But it appears he's not our man this time.
However, he did post a great video link about the loss. All about forumite Alf Hukker. (Geddit? For both the names?!) Now I barely read the Betfair horse racing forum and don't pretend to know or understand all the shenanigans, wind ups and private jokes on it but I always thought these were the same guy?! What the **** do I know though. Alf Hukker says it wasn't him that lost and makes another suggestion in a thread all about it on the racing forum. Whatever the truth, whoever did their bollocks, the video is well worth a watch anyway.
Quality stuff I'm sure you'll agree! Anyway, I guess the serious Betfair players all know the identity of the £237k loser.

It must be of great comfort to all those losers that BF wriggled out of paying on the infamous race in Ireland when the "client" had insufficient funds to cover.

8.5K on a horse called Gemology to place in a wolves maiden at about 1.05, pulled like a train and faded into near last - the feeling was indescribable, although at least it prompted me into the in-running market; no more backing horses that have no chance after 2f.
Something similar to the OP.8.5K on a horse called Gemology to place in a wolves maiden at about 1.05, pulled like a train and faded into near last - the feeling was indescribable, although at least it prompted me into the in-running market; no more
Bank was 13.5K, got all of it back the next day - although eventually blew the lot, finishing off with a 7K loss backing Ned Ludd to place in a Goodwood maiden which was probably just as painful, leading 2f out on a thorough stayer only to be swallowed up by the third close home, probably would have been a 1.01 place
I was absolutely no respect for money back then, even for an 18 year old - had built it up from £50 so convinced myself I was only losing £50, how naive

During my many years on the Turf I have suffered many loses in the region of
a £1000 upwards it was like water off a duck's back, these days I would be really
pissed off to lose a £100 on a race, times change.

I got 2 grand up to 25K and lost 11K laying a 11/4 favourite that won in a bunch finish. 1 length covered the first 5 home and the jolly got the nod in the last stride.

Remember, him when he was a conditional jockey, think he was married to Peter Easterby's
Daughter at the time we all used to travel to the sports at Musselburgh by train and play
cards on the way up and then again on the way back, I dont think Fahey joined in the fun
as I think he was too hard up, come a long way since then so he has.
