while being interviewed on ATR, totally unprmpted, he proffered the information that Swiss Cross was his best ride of the day (the question would have been asked anyway - it always is - but it caught my attention the way he was so keen to say it). Horse finished 5th, and, inexpert judge tho' I am in these matters, I'd swear he threw the place by stopping riding half a furlong out. I'd like some of you out there to have a look for yourselves and see if you think I'm right.
I backed it ew and yeah I was a bit disappointed that he didn´t ride it out to the line - I´m not sure he actually whipped it at any stage now That I come to think about it...it certainly wasn´t his most forceful ride.
But tbh all the top jocks ease down when they can´t win...that way they might get the horse dropped a few pounds and can win on it later. The only ones who ride out to the line seem to be hungry claimers and journeymen looking for a few bob.

Can't comment on the ride but interesting that the reason Phil McEntee gave for stepping it up in trip was due to 'King Kieran' - the trainer has been running it over sprint trips all winter!

Horse looked back to form at Epsom time before over 5f, staying on well in 4th after being hampered early. Fallon must have suggested 7f...think it will be back at 6f next time. Starting to look unreliable imo.

just seen this by ramruna from the other Fallon thred : Ramruma • April 28, 2013 10:02 AM BST Most jockeys go on too long, as their reputations fade more slowly than their abilities with age, so they still get on the better horses, which masks their decline.
Seriously, what other top-level sport has so many leading players well past their mid-30s? Fallon is 48 years old.
Even snooker, now standards have risen so far since the 1970s, is a young man's game. GOOD POIT

Kinane turned 50 a couple of weeks after winning the Derby on Sea the Stars.
I backed Swiss Cross and managed to dump it in running. I don't blame Fallon. The horse wasn't up for it.

you dont actually desperatemunter say if you backed this horse i assume your comment therefore is a simple one ie was it a bad or ill judged ride . i think the comment posted was never up for it summed it up . that being said every ride he gives that he doesnt win on gets him slated... the problem is that his dealings over the years with some less than savory people have made him not the go to pilot he once was .Im sure hes not short of a few bob and the restricted quantity or indeed quality of the horses hes being offered as a ride falls far short of a time not too long ago .Im certain his well documented misdeeds are starting to weigh heavy on his shoulders and the younger fresher non tainted pilots are moveing passed him .His time has gone not because his ability has deserted him but because the rides have ,Again his reputation means any slight cash for his mounts becomes an avalanche ,,, its a perceived plot because of his previous form ,,, these days its usually not so why bother y cant make money betting on him so let them run and leave the conspiracy theory to the disaffected

@Swardean -- Sir Graham Wade tomorrow -- I've not studied the race so may be wiping egg off my face by quarter to four but a 5-minute glance at the Ramrumaform ratings suggests there are three horses with better form, and most of the other six are roughly as good. Nor does he strike me as having been crying out for a step up in trip.
That said, you could probably say much the same about any future Cup horse at the start of his 4-year-old season, and he is well entered up.
This race may be one for the paddock judges: which horses are carrying condition and just using this as a sighter for the Gold Cup? At the likely prices, I'd be on the German horse if I had to bet now but I don't.

I'm not trying to be rude here but I sometimes wonder am I watching the same race as other members on here at times.
He was scrubbing along fully 4 furlongs out and gave the horse half a dozen slaps with the whip and then pushed it out all the way to the line bar a couple of times where he turned his reins out to get the horse to pick up the bit.

good comment kemo Sabe, yours and Ramruna's comment pretty much explain it - for me the problem was the fact that he volunteered, unprompted, the view that Swiss Cross was his best ride of the day. Someone like Fallon ought/must know a million times more about horseracing than I could ever hope to know : so for him to give an opinion which was so very badly wrong is inconsistent with the level of expertise I attribute to him.

And he stopped working on it in the last half furlong so it failed to place. It could be that the animal had completely emptied and further 'work' would be pointless - . Did i bet it? No, but was going to put plenty on - bottled it at the last moment. Watched with considerable interest as a result tho'.

Well I must be watching a different race then because I didn't see Fallon stop riding but I did see him hit the horse 6 times in a race where it was asked did he even use the whip on the horse at all.

keiron fallon has won from front on horse over 7f front runners all day won yesterday, he rode the winner from the front previous race. I had a huge ew bet as i saw no pace in race expected fallon to cme out of stalls lead and stay there as there was no pace pressure. they even mentioned the tail wind, so i doubled up again to see him come out stalls and take a pull... was fuming. What won?? The horse that made all lol the positions hardly changed the whole race.

he rode the horse out but i believe the horses chance was compromised by the tactical position he was put in, nothing came off the pace and surely after riding previous winner from front he would of known that you had to be there... i mean look at the 2yo race the filly that won is very highly rated has been for a lo0ng time only just got to a horse with average fom who went blazing off from front... stevie wonder could see u had to be in first 3. He's had previous form with fallon on over 7f from front, very well hcapped. No pace pressure full of hold up horse or horses who wouldnt like ground was crying out to go make all.

Kieren Fallon's history is there for all to see, anybody who backs him shouldnt really be complaining if things dont materialise they way they were hoping.
