Has to be a non-racing related incident, can't see the police getting involved in racefixing or anything again, though they are investigating Godolphin but that's only because an illegal substance to the UK was use

A JOCKEY from East Yorkshire has been banned from driving for four years after pleading guilty to drink-driving when he was found asleep in his car by police.
A hearing at Bridlington Magistrates’ Court marked the third time Graham Gibbons, 29, had been convicted of drink-driving.
The father-of-two, from Wetwang near Driffield, was said to have appeared drunk when he was spotted walking towards his car outside a local pub on February 27.
The police were alerted when he was seen attempting to start the vehicle and officers later found him asleep inside the car outside his home.
He was found to be nearly three times the legal alcohol limit, with 98 microgrammes of alcohol registered. Police also discovered that Gibbon’s insurance had expired.
In mitigation, the court was told Gibbons had “struggled with drink” and it was an issue he was trying to resolve with help from his wife

If true very sad for both him and his family ....His wife trying to help him says a lot , He must be a good husband and father to his children , otherwise she'd have left him..Lets wish Graham all the best as he struggles with this terrible disease ...Let him who is without sin cast the first stone...

Fair enough help him with the drink but as soon as he gets behind the wheel after having a drink any sympathy goes straight out the window imo. Give him 5 years in Wantworth to help him with his disease, better that than him knock down or crash into some innocent by stander

ive mixed feelings about this really ... lets first of all think if this guy had hit one of our kids and injured or worse then im sure our feelings would be towards the he deserves 10 years and thats not enough .after all how many chances does he get ,hes playing russian roulette with peoples lives just useing a car instead of a gun .Or alternativly well he hasnt actually hurt anyone yet so handcuffs are a little harsh . Perhaps the humiliation of this episode might be the trigger to him actually realiseing he needs help ... this disease or addiction needs to run its course till its at the stage he cant get any lower ,,, then and only then will he acknowledge his probs and seek and accept help /// the question is does anyone want to help him and does he want help ... perhaps his employers should accept resposibility and say if y wish to ride for us y need to seek help ... but thats no guarantee

David Easterby, assistant to his father, Mick, who trains Hoof It. "I'm a very big fan, I think he's the best in the north," he says.
"He's the right shape to be a jockey and nothing fazes him. It doesn't matter to him whether it's a Group One race with more than £100,000 in prize money or some race at Wolverhampton.
"He wouldn't be able to tell you much when he comes back [after the race] but he will be able to the next day, once he's digested what happened. I'm not bothered about that, I can wait to hear from him.
"There was a horse I wanted to try over some cross-country type fences, I'd only broken it in two weeks [earlier]. He carried it over every fence, no one else would have dared, it was brilliant. I've asked him about being a jump jockey and he says, it's a no-brainer, David. I get paid the same amount [on the Flat] and there's a lot less chance of being injured. Plus, when I go racing, it's always on, whereas 20% of the meetings are called off in the winter."
Surely Gibbons would have to be a fair bit heavier to ride over fences effectively? "Well, I'm sure he wouldn't mind having 10 pints a day and two pork pies," Easterby says.

why couldn't they just bust his doors down at 5.30a.m. as is the norm? You'd think he was on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List. Ridiculous and expensive carry on.

I personally would like to wish him all the best in his fight against his addiction ....in my book no better jockey to have faith in when the money is down....fighting alcoholism is a terrible place to be and if he lost his job riding horses he would be on an even faster downward spiral ....Ive witnessed it first hand in my family ,when my uncle a fantastic guy when he was younger got banned from driving when nipping to the chinese 8 mg over the limit (out of order I know),then lost his job as a contract electrician ,lost his girlfriend cos he had no car and no job, followed soon after by his house, well I bought it to try and help him out so he could get a flat ....he then continued drinking after seemingly beating the damn affliction after counselling ,stopping and starting until he couldnt take it anymore and finally hung himself ....All the best Graham ...this is the hardest final furlong your ever gonna face .....just hope you battle it as hard as you ride some of your finishes ...good luck
