The Disciplinary Panel of the British Horseracing Authority held an enquiry on 25 October 2007 into the analysis of the urine ordered to be taken from
(i) YES SIR (IRE) after the gelding had finished first in the Ashleybank Investments Future Champion Novices’ Chase at Ayr on 21st April 2007.
(ii) ALWAYS WAINING (IRE) after the gelding had finished first in the Cenkos (Scotland) Securities Novices’ Handicap Chase at Ayr on 21st April 2007.
(iii) RIPALONG LAD (IRE) after the gelding had finished first in the Jenkinsons Caterers Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race at Ludlow on 29th April 2007.
The urine of YES SIR (IRE), ALWAYS WAINING (IRE) and RIPALONG LAD (IRE) was found to contain tetramisole which is a prohibited substance. After considering the evidence, including a written statement from Bowen, who had taken legal advice, and other witnesses, the Panel was satisfied that the source of the substance was the use of levamisole, given on veterinary advice, to treat a skin condition known as onchocerciasis which is caused by a worm. A 14 day course of levamisole was prescribed to all 3 horses (and others) by Bowen’s veterinary surgeon. Bowen’s medication records stated that the horses had received a 7 day course of levamisole starting on 12th April 2007, however he was subsequently unable to confirm whether the horses had in fact received a 7 or 14 day course.
The Panel accepted an admission from Bowen that he was in breach of Rule 53 in all three cases and imposed a fine of £1000 in total.
Under Rule 180 (ii), the Panel disqualified YES SIR (IRE), placing NATAL (FR) first, FAASEL (IRE) second, HARMONY BRIG (IRE) third and RASHARROW (IRE) fourth in the Ashleybank Investments Future Champion Novices’ Chase at Ayr on 21 April 2007; disqualified ALWAYS WAINING (IRE), placing GET MY DRIFT (IRE) first, and FROM DAWN TO DUSK second in the Cenkos (Scotland) Securities Novices’ Handicap Chase at Ayr on 21 April 2007; and disqualified RIPALONG LAD (IRE) placing ASTURION (GER) first, SUPREME MELODY (IRE) second, SANTINHO (IRE) third and HE’S A SHEILA fourth from the Jenkinsons Caterers Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race at Ludlow on 29 April 2007.

Peter Bowen / CONTACT DANCER (IRE)
The Disciplinary Panel of the British Horseracing Authority held an enquiry on 27th September 2007 into the analysis of the urine ordered to be taken from CONTACT DANCER (IRE), trained by Peter Bowen, by the Stewards at Sedgefield after the gelding had finished first in the Benfield Renault Novices’ Chase on 1st May 2007.
The urine of the horse was found to contain pemoline, which is a prohibited substance. After considering the evidence, including a statement from Bowen, the Panel was unable to establish the source of the substance, and could not therefore be satisfied that the administration of the substance was accidental and that the trainer had taken all reasonable care.
The Panel accepted an admission from Bowen that he was in breach of Rule 53. It imposed a fine of £1000. Under Rule 180(ii), the Panel disqualified CONTACT DANCER (IRE) from the race, placing RAYSHAN (IRE) first, CANNON FIRE (FR) second, WALLY WONDER (IRE) third and DUNGUAIRE LADY (IRE) fourth.
The Panel also informed Bowen that all the horses in his care will be the subject of examination and the taking of samples for analysis provided for in Rule 237 within the next twelve months.

Nobody feel the need to comment on this thread?, when you consider 4 horses from the one stable tested positive for a banned substance in the same season all winners I may add and the BHA only fined him £1000 per horse?.
Al Zarooni got 8 years because he admitted it and didnt play the innocent "I know nothing card", but surely if you have 4 winners testing positive in the space of a few months this is far from a coincidence?.
In any other jurisdiction this guy would have got himself a pretty hefty ban from training horses?

It is a known to have performance enhancing characteristics though, so I understand what Silvergreaser is saying. There are other methods that trainer's can use to treat worms, so I find it hard to believe that the Bowen lot didn't know what they was doing - looks pretty blatant.
levamisole, the same substance giraffe neck Dunguib was injected with, so potent is this sheep wormer (not horse wormer) that when it breaks down in the horses system it becomes a cocaine like substance?.
Finding Levamisole/Tetramisole in racehorses is itself of concern, but finding such a significant performance enhancing drug as Pemoline in racehorses is of great concern. The Authority has investigated the reason for these coincidental findings of Pemoline with Levamisole and Tetramisole. Studies at HFL, have demonstrated a mechanism by which Pemoline is produced in horse liver cells following exposure of these cells to a metabolite of Levamisole and Tetramisole. We therefore believe that the probable source of Pemoline found coincidentally with Levamisole and Tetramisole is from the metabolism in the horse of these two latter drugs.
