Surely the blindfold is only needed to get a reluctant nag into the stalls? Once in, surely it should be removed straight away, with the starter not letting them go until they're all removed?

hoods have been used to keep horses calm in stalls for years ,,, the problem is that they need a compotant pilot who can pull them off at the same time as stalls open ,,, some are far better than others at this tricky manouver .j fanning is particulary adept at this trick .the noise as the stalls are buffeted by the horse as they load is incredible ,,, try just going to the start next time at races so its no wonder sprinters in particular get spooked by the noise .i know without this trick that my 5f sprinter would have fretted his race away and been left way behind bcause of this noise .this piece of kit was vital in his armoury
