Stewards held an enquiry into the running & riding of COMPTON HEIGHTS

ridden by Tom Eaves and trained by Jim Goldie, which was held up towards the rear in the early stages before staying on to finish fourth, beaten seven lengths. They interviewed the rider and the trainer’s representative. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer. The rider stated his instructions were to drop the gelding in and get him to finish in the best possible place. He added that the gelding ran green and only got going in the latter stages. The trainer’s representative confirmed theses instructions and stated that he was satisfied with the ride given. He added that the gelding had been very green on his last run at Newcastle and would possibly be suited by softer ground. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.
