on paper this looks a pretty competitive handicap hurdle with sixteen runners and the market is headed by peter bowens big time billy at around 9/2-5/1. she appeared to show massive improvement last time out when slamming occasionally yours by seventeen lengths at fakenham. just my opinion but that did not look a great race beforehand and this looks a far stronger race. i'm not sure the drop back in trip will suit either and coupled with the fact that she is thirteen pounds higher here, she represents absolutely no value whatsoever.
there are a couple in this race that catch my eye. the first is scholastica, who at a best priced 20/1 is certainly of interest to me. she is relatively lightly raced and has only had one run in a handicap to date which came last time out at uttoxeter, where she finished five lengths second to dirty deal. that was over two miles and im pretty sure that distance was way too short for her. at first glance it would appear her best form comes on heavy ground as when she won a novice event, also at uttoxeter, beating my flora by twenty lengths. however she won two bumper races at the start of her career, on good and good/soft ground and i think she will appreciate todays going.
the other of interest to me would be baby shine currently around 11/1. she has been in really good form and last time out at aintree, she finished fifth behind battle group and she had just started to make a move on the leaders when suffering some interference turning for home, and watching the replay of that, she did well to stay on her feet. despite that she kept on really well. drops back down in trip here but her last win came at around this distance when beating katkeau at kempton. although eight pounds higher since that win, her last two performances suggest to me she is capable of winning a race from this mark.
