it's always been the same, no different now to 30 years ago, horse racing is just a large minority sport.

I am ignorant of many sports. I could not name a single member of the players in the 6 nations rugby, and only Jonny Wilkinson from the team that won the world cup.

A lot of punters are losing interest in the game so it's not a shock to know so many outside of the sport couldn't care less. So long as the racecourses have concerts they couldn't care less either.

There was a question on The Chase recently, they asked this bloke what sport Jonjo O'Neill was involved in, bloke went totally blank and didn't have a clue.

although I agree on the prevalence of mass ignorance of many subjects in our little country, the sport does need promoting to a wider audience but it will always remain a minority sport

these student evenings the Irish are putting on seem like a good start

most of the "racing" festivals are now glorified pi55 ups with some animals running around a track that the vast majority don't give two hoots about. Racecourses don't seem to care what the audience is either. Ascot, for example, is now more attractive to people that want to go out in a limo, get pi55ed on champers with some oysters and queue up for a snort in the toilets

There will be plenty at the summer meetings who neither know who AP or Jonjo are.And they are the actual audience.

National ignorance over sporting matters pales into insignificance when considering that the country is led by a group of

political relics that know nothing about the UKs real economic problems that are in part there own creation in terms of

false economy drives that have led to the highest rents and house prices that far exceed the GDP performance stats for this country over the relative period.

Not only has the UK forgotten how to be the biggest and best producer many , many decades ago, but it has forgotten that it was the many average low paid British workers that made it all happen while it purges itself and its many economic losers to bully up a pointless class game of pride and prejudice...

Conversely - HORSE RACING NEEDS an immense amount of attention - in order to get any satisfaction from it .

The VAST majority of the populace simply do not have such PATIENCE nor ABILITY.

Trying to attract 'Casual followers' - even -  is a thoroughly pointless waste of time, energy, and money.

You 'FIND' racing due to some inherent - and SUSTAINED -  interest WITHIN you  ....

Racing does NOT 'find' you - simply because you are short of something else to do.
