In 1982, while competing in the Paris-Dakar rally, Thatcher, his French co-driver, Anne-Charlotte Verney, and their mechanic went missing in the Sahara Desert for six days.

"I've now raced in Le Mans and other things – this rally is no problem"

after rescue

"I did absolutely no preparation. Nothing." Laugh

Wholly fooook[:

Sir Mark was at the centre of an international scandal over his involvement in an attempt to overthrow the government of Equatorial Guinea and install a new regime. In 2005 he was fined £500,000 and given a four-year suspended sentence in South Africa after admitting to helping to finance the plot

It was Lady Thatcher who wrote the cheque for £265,000 to free him from house arrest.

lester piggott lost his knighthood for less

Thatch had a blind spot regarding this waste of space...also having Jimmy Saville round for New Years many times doesn't show great judgement, then of course there's her friend General Pinochet noted for his human rights abuses, tax evasion and embezzelment.  Still, no ones perfect.

"Sir" is probably the going rate for failure..... just ask the bankers.
If had avoided arrest and charges, been a general nobody, would have made it to a Lord (can't believe how virtually every member of Thatcher's Cabinets been made Lords)
Would have made Duke and given a castle if coup attempt had succeeded

Sir Mark inherited hit title from his Father, when Mrs Thatcher left the Houses of Common

she was awarded a Life Peerage which she accepted Dennis her husband was offered a knighthood

which Mrs Thatcher insisted was a Baronetcy so that when Dennis died the waster Mark would

inherit. It seems there is bugger all for delectable Carol.

agree that Carol seems amazingly normal.

Surprising that Mark not been stripped of the baronetcy given his involvement in  Guinea plot.
