Ex-Newmarket trainer Mick Quinlan dead

Among the best horses trained by Mick Quinlan before he passed on the training licence were Queen Mary Stakes winner Langs Lash, Listed winner Frank Sonata, Cheltenham Festival winner Silk Affair and Grand Sefton Chase winner Dev. |

MICK QUINLAN, the former Newmarket trainer, has been found dead at his home. He was 61. It would appear the same newspaper cannot agree how old he was ??!! |

Noel Quinlan confirmed his brother had taken his own life and said: "It's important we remember the great highs he had. He was a great man, a great trainer and a great brother.
"He was a very clever horseman too, and a good rider, with great hands. He could do anything with a young horse." Terribly sad. |

I had experience with both of the Quinlans, both characters to say the least. Must say I'd preferred to deal with Mick
He was a grafter, through and through, when he'd finish riding out, he'd be off fixing roof's, or laboring in all weather's. He'd get through a bottle of whiskey at one sitting. Sad news and a shame. RIP |

Sorry to hear about Micky Quinlan.I worked for Victor Chandler in Newmarket from 1996 to 1999 and remember the brothers well.They were always looking to pull off a coup and they did.£150 EW on a horse ridden by Robert Winston at Warwick.It won at 33/1 and next day I was shown a six inch thick bundle of betting slips on this horse.A certain Mr.moorcroft was involved but good luck to them I informed Victor about the coup but was fobbed off due to other information.I share your grief,Noel.

Micheal had a great sense of humour and was very sharp. He had his faults, the drink being his biggest but he cared about the people around him. I will miss him. RIP my friend.
