A whopping 170 Derby Points up for grabs in New York's No1 Trial:
#1 ChrisandtheCapper - Huge win in a claimer last time here but massive step up in trip and competition might be too much
#2 Normandy Invasion - 2nd in the Remsen behind Overanalzye who was put in his place by Vyjack last time out. Bullet workouts and jockey switch to Javier Castelleno
#3 Quinzimne Monarque - Behind Normandy Invasion in the Remsen and probably overmatched here...has the young hot shot Irad Ortiz Jr on board
#4 Elnaawi - Shadwell owned son of Street Sense needs to pick it up after soundly beaten by Vyjack in the Gotham....worse off at the weights now.
#5 Vyjack - Undefeated champ on the New York Circuit....Jerome and Gotham wins...Extremely flexible racing style allows him to always find a way to win.
#6 Mr Palmer - Very decent Listed / G3 horse of Bill Mott's.....you never write off Bill Mott so anything is possible...maybe this is too much too soon.
#7 Always in A Tiz - Well beaten off in the SouthWest last time...First Time Blinks need to have a dramatic effect
#8 Verrazano - Undefeated Todd Pletcher winner of the Tampa Bay Derby...Owned by the small time Lets Go Stable and Coolmore :) The pent up power of this horse is unreal. Reminds me of Point Given.
#9 Go Get the Bail - Pretty highly overmatched here and quite exposed now...does have a couple course wins to his name and the other Ortiz lad on board.
#10 Freedom Child - Front runner having Lasix for the first time....looks overmatched here. At least comes into the race in a bit of form.
Verdict...
A shootout awaits as two Derby prospects put their UNDEFEATED tags on the line....Verrazano vs Vyjack. As much as I like Verrazano I got to give him a miss at the prices and go for the Vyjack who somhow always seems to find a way to win.

evening elg, just wondering if vyjack is really going to be hammered here if the fav is on tune, connections almost giving off the message that they don't mind if they lose this one
could be a bluff, but maybe they are just getting a marker in and collecting a few more points even though they are probably in the field anyway normandy invasion looks to have more to lose, definitely chad brown needs the points for this one, big ask to get between the two favs though, thought elnaawi was disappointing against vyjack, thought that would show more and might be closer today if that was an off day |

if they were holding a little back with vyjack that would still leave alot to find to turn that form, you'd need a big price to want to back it
