Don't know - never go in them nowadays.
Still recall trying to get a price for a bet on a Conditions Flat sprint race at Beverley - and stuck behind a queue of tanner e/w National punters. That would be about 46 years ago. Ian Baldings runner won the race and got disqualified!!!! Unfortunately I did get bet on. |

Man who says "I don't use bookies" is usually lying
For some reason when people talk about them on here they have to qualify it by claiming they don't use them ![]() ![]() ![]() I would say 99.9999% of people on here use bookmakers , even the winning punters ![]() You are a GAMBLER , it is fine to admit you use bookmakers |

Normally the person in front of me asks how much tax they need to pay or how to fill the slip in. Regulars going mad cos they cant get bet on virtual racing cos of the queues. Think it a day for normal punters to keep away. Gonna go myself soon while early, had a word for trap 3 at brushwood lol. Have a good one.

couldn't make up how stupid the public are in bookies on gn day, even if you start the day in a positive way they will drive you mental long before the race is off, then the afterrace confusion about winnings etc just tops you off, needed few stiff drinks asap when day over

EWW, I used to spend a fair bit of time in the bookies in the early 80's, I met my wife in the local Mecca bookies, she worked there at weekends. I haven't been inside a bookies for a good 7 or 8 years.
Nearest I have got is when we went to my wifes old manager's wife's funeral a couple of years ago, he died last year but we didn't find out until after the funeral. He used to manage a bookies in Chichester with his wife for years |

This is the first National day i havent worked in a bookies for years . Really looking forward to enjoying the day , but even though i dont bet in the shops now i will still go in for the atmosphere until about lunch time . Feel sorry for the staff now . No 6 o clock finish anymore and no bonus to go for a drink for all the hard work .

when i worked in c0rals, management in their infinite wisdom decided to run a fobt competition the same day
absolute chaos.further to barrow boy, unbelievable you stil get the tax question! they normally qualify it by saying 'i only do this once a year'...so did not paying tax for the last 2 decades not sink in then? |
|
By:
the one that used to get me was the would hand you a piece of paper with about ten selections on, you would show them how to fill in the quickslip
then they would put the bets on, go to walk out the door and say can i take the prices or am i too late ![]() ![]() |
|
By:
Should be no queues at payment if manager is any good, I used to sort all bets by
horse and stick em in the pigeon holes, and separate piles, so as result came, you didn't have to many dockets to go through. But that was a long time ago. You'd allways hope a rag popped up ![]() |
