I thought Beneficent was going to go out there yesterday as well.
Seems pretty amateurish to have a "Rope" sealing off the cut away imho

Nothing to do with the jockey.  Cheltenham racecourse should NOT have tape as a divider.  A top meeting still needs to learn
Report Vubiant March 15, 2013 4:13 PM GMT

There was a similar incident at Chelt a few years back at the very same intersection. I think it happened at the April hunters meeting where a single tape was stretched across the intersection, the rider turned left through the tape instead of going straight on towards the finish.

Report Dr Gonzo March 15, 2013 10:58 PM GMT
Just watched a replay of the race - still think the horse spooking was as much to do with the people running towards the track as he was about to go by - as 11kv mentions above..
Report GT-MOLE March 15, 2013 11:01 PM GMT
Spot on Dr Gonzo,as was 11kv............not the tape that caused his jink imo.
Report Marcce March 15, 2013 11:10 PM GMT
He was already hanging in towards the tape before he got to those people.

She had her whip in the right hand all the way up the straight. Look what happens when she gives him a crack between the last 2 fences. He drifts towards the rail. She quickly swapped to her left hand after she'd given him a crack straight after the last and he had drifted in again. It was too late unfortunately.

Report GT-MOLE March 15, 2013 11:16 PM GMT
She gave him a smack before he jinked with her whip in her left (correct hand).

Who knows what was in the horses mind?

No matter she was not at fault.NAP
Report Marcce March 15, 2013 11:33 PM GMT
Yes but she got the whip pulled through quickly into her left hand after giving him a smack with the right hand after the last.

Where that rail ends and the tape begins he's heading towards doing another circuit. It's her attempt to correct him that causes the jink.

Absolutely right that she did nothing wrong though. She'd ridden a fantastic race which deserved to be rewarded with a win.
Report The Walker March 15, 2013 11:44 PM GMT
Watched this in my local coral, some bloke started shouting she should be banned and it was a disgrace! I asked him do u honestly think she would jump off the horse with a  chance of winning a race at the festival? He promptly shut up and facked off shortly after!
Report GT-MOLE March 16, 2013 12:04 AM GMT
Not a single Pro jockey riding could have anticipated the jink and imo not one would have stayed in the saddle.

She did everything right and would probably have won barring the horse jinking.

What a great way for them to experience how easy it is to be a jockey don't you agree ?

Guinn1,I doubt you will have any takers.

Good luck in your venture, more like you and the world would be a better place.

We (my oh) have a lovely colt rising I think now 6.........

Bought him in Brazil, slashed his near fore tendons.Never raced

We eat horse regularly here and no sentiment more than one would give a cow in general terms.

However we respect the racehorse and I hope understand them, and btw the horse will never be eaten,9 dogs would enjoy a BBQ no doubt.I hope to make it home sometime soon and top of the list is seeing the horse.Closely followed by the OH and dogs.
