Admire the guys enthusiasm for the horse and his trainer, as the horse has won the owner loads of money in terms of betting.

But seems to have regressed since his exertions of last season so running him in the Byrne Group plate to get back some of the money they lost betting on him for the Gold Cup this year.

I thought the Ryanair would have been a better option with the smaller field etc.  But the owner was quite adamant that this horse would win, and that the horse would blow them away... and had a trick up his sleeve (yes read all media snippets) but was 4th and never really threatened the top 2. It seems to me whatever the trainer tells the owner he believes it ... all of it...

I think they need to address what they think is going wrong with the horse... how can a horse find so much improvement and not retain the same level of ability? I think he was the best form horse in the race he is better than Carrickboy, Vino and Tartak.

My advice is simple...if you want your horse in the big league (where he should be) send him to one of the big jump trainers, Kieran Burke has done a fantastic job to get him where he is...  but this horse is not going any further. Simple.

Seriously, chagne the stable

If owners changed stables every time there horse ran a bad race or had a poor season then stables

would be fitted with revolving doors and also horses dont become the greatest improver through the handicapping

system because the trainer needs changing but he didn't have an effect as the fact is he improved so much

whilst being trained to be so much better with every race.

perhaps the horse needs some time out to carry some condition and then attempt a gentler transition back to top flight

work as some horses need time out to just be a horse again to come back stronger at a later point.

Just glancing at the form, and without wishing to become too Mordinesque about it, it looks like all his wins have come in handicaps at two and a half miles, and most of them right-handed. He was fourth yesterday which is not the end of the world.

I think the owner needs to tone it down a bit. Hunt Ball is not top class but a shade below it. Hopefully he has not become a twilight horse (too high for handicaps but not quite Graded class. Once connections take that on board, they can study the programme book for races in which Hunt Ball can show his best, rather than shooting at the moon (aka the Gold Cup).

dont think the trainer has ever been the problem, just an owner who thought he had the next arkle.

I think any owner that took Hunt Ball away from Burke after what he has done with it would be crackers. The horse ran fourth which is still a good result and run given the competitiveness of Cheltenham off top weight and a decent mark. Where would you send the horse to one of the big jump trainers? Nicholls and Pipe haven't had a winner and look at the amount of fire power and money they have at their disposal.

Fair enough if the horse was running a bit doggy and needed freshening up and a change of scenery, but for me Burke has done spot on.

would'nt send any horse to david pipe to be fair, would rather train it myself.

Personally thought it went wrong ysdy at the start. First time they lined up he was front rank, ready to tank along. After false start he was further back 2nd time and was always rushed, not in his comfort zone thereafter so if anyone was to blame it was Scholfield. Kieran Burke is a brilliant trainer with the ammo he's got.

I hope a decent trainer takes this horse... Im sure if Nicholls can revive Tidal Bays career to win the Lexus, Im sure he can do a lot more with Hunt Ball.

Hunt Ball woulda done fine imo if the trainer was allowed to run him in the races that were right for the horse!

Owner needs to keep his beak out of things the attention seeking numpty

Well seded BJG even the trainer agrees with ya

Burke said: "I asked Mr Knott to take Hunt Ball away and he has just gone today.

"It was a very hard decision as he's the best horse I've trained and possibly the best I will ever train, but I've got to look after myself and think of my career.

"I wish the horse all the best and I hope someone else will have a lot of fun with him because he's a good horse and he deserves to be running in the right races for him."
